As The Boys barrels toward its fifth and final season, creator Eric Kripke is promising a brutal body count — and taking a not-so-subtle swipe at sci-fi shows that play it safe, Stranger Things included.

Well, The Boys is always happy to wear its 'unpredictable' badge with pride—and now showrunner Eric Kripke is promising that the carnage is officially not slowing down for the final season. If you got attached to anyone after four seasons of compound V-fueled mayhem, Kripke wants you to brace yourself or maybe start preemptively grieving.

Kripke Pulls No Punches, Throws a Little Shade

In a recent interview with SFX Magazine, Kripke didn’t just drop the usual 'expect twists' soundbite; he basically guaranteed that Season 5 of The Boys is going to feature some real, final, character deaths—no takebacks, no winking fake outs, no 'everyone hugs afterward' endings. The question isn't 'if' but 'who' won't make it out.

Kripke’s words on the subject:

'We wanted to take full advantage of emotional moments and have these mind-blowing confrontations that characters will never get over. It's a battle, and there are going to be casualties. Being realistic about that just makes sense. It bums me out when big, epic sci-fi shows skip the consequences and let everyone walk away fine. Things have to cost something. So, yeah, don’t get too attached.'

No real subtlety there—this is the end, and Kripke’s not going to 'Marvel' it with safe cards. He even singled out a trend in sci-fi TV (and yes, by 'big, epic' shows, it sure sounds like he might be dragging Stranger Things), where disappointing finales let basically everyone off the hook.

Reading Between the Lines: Shots Fired at Stranger Things?

If you've been keeping up, Stranger Things wrapped its own five-season run at the end of 2025. There was lots of talk about losing major characters—fans were mentally preparing to say goodbye to at least a few familiar faces during the big showdown with Vecna. But when the dust settled, pretty much everyone got a happy ending. Even Eleven, who teased the audience with a maybe-death, managed to skate by (allegedly faking her demise to dodge evil government folks).

Compared to that, Kripke’s approach sounds a lot less forgiving. If he’s saying don’t get too attached, it’s probably time to start placing bets on who’s about to eat a hearty serving of bad luck next year.

What We Know About The Boys Season 5 So Far

  • Release Date: The final season of The Boys is set for Prime Video on April 8, 2026
  • Critical Deaths: Kripke says expect 'vital casualties'—translation: actual lead characters are on the chopping block
  • Finale Vibes: The creator is promising an 'emotional' but brutal closure, without the sci-fi safety net
  • Industry Commentary: He’s not shy about calling out fellow TV heavyweights for playing it safe with their own series finales

Look, it’s pretty refreshing to hear a showrunner all but say, 'Yep, bloodbath incoming, don’t blame us later.' So if you were hoping The Boys would slow down and start handing out happy endings, Kripke’s interview just put that fantasy in a chokehold. If anything, sounds like they’re going out with a bang—and probably a few body bags.
