That was fast: Matt Damon joins a new action movie days after acting hiatus announcement
So much for a hiatus: just days after saying he’d step back, Matt Damon has hopped aboard the cast of a new action movie — but which one?
So, apparently Matt Damon isn’t quite done with acting, regardless of what he’s been telling the press. Within days of dropping big hints about taking a break, he’s landed a new cameo—because of course he has. Actors do love a dramatic pause, don’t they?
Matt Damon’s blink-and-you-miss-it return to camera comes mere weeks after he told GQ, 'I didn’t think I was going to work.'
This new gig sees Damon pop up in Stuntnuts, which you might want to keep an eye on for several odd reasons. It’s being produced by Matthew Vaughn, who never does things by halves, and—here’s the curveball—it’s the first film credit for Cristiano Ronaldo’s company, UR MARV. Yes, that Cristiano Ronaldo. The footballer is now, officially, a film producer. Welcome to 2026.
All About Stuntnuts
Right, so Stuntnuts: plot-wise, the film throws together two stunt performers who sign up for a massive Hollywood production. Their main goal? Save their community gym. But as you’d expect, things go wildly off the rails with bigger and bolder stunts and plenty of mayhem, not least thanks to the egos of the stars leading the fictional blockbuster inside the film.
- Chris Hemsworth and Sam Rockwell play outlandish versions of themselves, squaring off as duelling actors and providing a wink to the audience about Hollywood’s own madness.
- Director Damien Walters brings proper stunt credentials; he’s got Bobby Holland Hanton (Hemsworth’s actual double), Greg Townley (the Spider-Man stuntman for Tom Holland), Paul Lowe, and Haruka Oshima on board.
If you’re sensing that the project is a bit self-aware, you’re not wrong. It stays deliberately over the top, to the point where saving the gym starts to look like the least of their worries.
Why Damon’s In
Now, Damon did state he planned to take 'a long time off' after the next thing he shoots, but—true to form—that “next thing” seems to arrive immediately. He told GQ he was genuinely planning not to work, until directors Daniels (Everything Everywhere All at Once) pitched him a project so gloriously odd he said yes on the spot. That one’s still to come. In the meantime, he couldn’t resist a bit of Stuntnuts chaos.
Stuntnuts is Cristiano Ronaldo’s first official credit as a film producer.
So, if you thought Matt Damon’s so-called hiatus might mean a Damon-free year, you’ll have to wait just a bit longer. The gym may or may not be saved, but Damon’s ability to stay away from a good film set? Not happening anytime soon.
