Taylor Swift is in on Toy Story 5 — and we finally know how. The Pixar sequel hits U.S. theaters this month.

Well, here’s one for your pub quiz: Taylor Swift, Disney, and Pixar have officially collided, if you can believe it. And no, I’m not taking the mickey. We’d heard the rumours that Swift was somehow tied to Toy Story 5 — and now it’s all properly confirmed. Turns out, she’s not voicing a toy or popping up as a CGI Barbie, but her contribution is still something fans will want to hear about.

What’s Swift actually doing with Toy Story?

So, after a fair bit of cloak-and-dagger teasing, the big reveal is that Taylor Swift has created a brand-new original song for Toy Story 5. The track is called ‘I Knew It, I Knew You’, and she’s written and produced it alongside her usual wingman, Jack Antonoff. The whole thing is set for a big splash: it drops everywhere you’d expect on Friday, 5 June. If you’re the sort who still has room for a CD, there are three exclusive editions up for pre-order on her website. One for the collectors, I suppose.

Director Andrew Stanton sounded genuinely enthused about having Swift involved. His quote was:

"It’s incredible just how meaningful it’s been having Taylor write and perform this song. Her connection to Jessie and the immediate way she understood what the character was going through was undeniable. The song is so deeply connected to ‘Toy Story.’ So much so that on first listen, it instantly felt like it had always belonged there, like a long-lost family member. It was kismet."

And, fair play, if you can get someone who can sell out Wembley faster than the England team to write your film’s original ballad, you probably do it.

Packed house, familiar voices

For those keeping tabs: Toy Story 5 is again helmed by Andrew Stanton (a Pixar mainstay, if there ever was one). Tom Hanks is back for another spin as Woody, with Tim Allen returning as Buzz Lightyear and Joan Cusack reprising Jessie.

  • Tom Hanks - Woody
  • Tim Allen - Buzz Lightyear
  • Joan Cusack - Jessie
  • Greta Lee - Lilypad (the new toy)

Greta Lee is on board to voice Lilypad — and here’s where things get a bit more modern: Lilypad’s actually a tablet. Yes, a literal piece of tech rolling into Bonnie’s playroom, carrying a whole set of ‘disruptive ideas’ about what’s best for their kid. Pixar has leaned in hard on the ‘old toys meet shiny new tech’ storyline this time. ‘Will playtime ever be the same?’ is the question the official synopsis is pitching. I’m guessing we’ll get equal parts existential crisis and jokes about WiFi passwords.

When’s it out?

The film lands in US cinemas on 19 June 2026.

It’s technically the fifth main entry in the franchise (though if you count 2022’s Lightyear, it’s number six). Honestly, if there was ever a moment to bring in Taylor Swift for a Pixar song, a technophobic Woody facing off with an iPad in a tutu is probably it.
