Beth and Rip spur Dutton Ranch to Paramount+'s biggest launch ever.

If you thought Yellowstone was winding down with a whimper, think again. Despite the drama both on-and-off screen, the Dutton family saga is far from finished – and, judging by the numbers, audiences still can’t get enough of that ranch mayhem.

From Turmoil to Triumph: Dutton Ranch Launches with a Bang

Let’s set the stage: Yellowstone gave us six chaotic, cowboy-packed seasons — most of them a huge success, but things fell off a cliff at the finish. The final episodes were pushed back repeatedly, and whispers of fallouts between Kevin Costner (the face of John Dutton) and the show’s brass dogged the production. Amidst this, what really kept the show ticking wasn’t even Costner, but the likes of Kelly Reilly’s Beth and Cole Hauser’s Rip. The two basically stole the show, and for many, became the emotional heart of the whole operation.

Now, Dutton Ranch arrives as something of a spiritual sixth season. Fans swarmed back for the return of Beth and Rip, and the critical reception hasn’t disappointed: a glowing review from MovieWeb, plus an 88% approval rating with Rotten Tomatoes critics. Clearly, viewers aren’t ready to leave the ranch just yet.

Smashing Streaming Records

Let’s get to those headline numbers. According to Paramount+, the launch of Dutton Ranch is officially the streamer's biggest original show debut ever. We're talking 12.9 million views — and before you ask, that’s not pure headcount. Paramount+ calculates a “view” by dividing total minutes streamed by the runtime of an episode, which makes it a bit less straightforward than a simple viewer tally. Still, no arguing this is a ton of eyeballs.

  • First night: 2.9 million views for a two-episode premiere (on Paramount+)
  • Same premiere on Paramount Network (the old-school broadcast home): 1.9 million viewers on May 15
  • Scored number one entertainment telecast among adults 18–49 that night
  • Most watched show for the week of 11 May

Not just on TV. The social media footprint is outrageous: Dutton Ranch racked up 990 million video views and 2 million "engagements" (likes, comments, shares, you name it) across official channels within three days. That’s the sort of digital attention most shows can only dream of.

Where's Taylor Sheridan in All This?

Now, Taylor Sheridan — the man behind the mayhem — has quietly become TV’s most bankable showrunner. He started as an out-of-work actor, broke through with Sicario and Hell or High Water, and now churns out hits for fun.

Besides Dutton Ranch, Sheridan's got several irons in the fire. The Madison tallied 8 million views, and the second season of Landman did so well, it sat in Nielsen’s top ten originals for 13 weeks straight. Both shows have more episodes on the way. Safe to say, this bloke keeps streaming execs very, very happy.

'Dutton Ranch has defied expectations, much like Yellowstone did during its first seasons.'

Here’s the business twist: while Sheridan’s still contracted with Paramount for now, in 2029 he’ll jump ship to NBCUniversal, reportedly for close to one billion dollars. Paramount apparently decided that price tag was a bit rich, so they're getting every drop while they can.

In the meantime, Dutton Ranch will keep releasing new episodes every Friday until 3 July.
