Task season 2 keeps Mark Ruffalo but brings in an almost entirely new cast
Task Season 2 is shaking up its line-up, as a major Season 1 star confirmed they’re out and revealed surprising details of a massive cast overhaul.
If you were expecting most of the original gang from Task to show up for the next round, brace yourself. Lilli Kay, a familiar face from HBO’s first season, has just let slip in an interview that she’s out and, actually, nearly everyone else is too. Turns out, season two is basically a clean slate in terms of cast.
Lilli Kay told ScreenRant: "It’s a whole new cast, which is very exciting... There’s a lot of new people in it. I’m not in this season."
If you need a refresher, Kay was last seen as Frankie Grasso in the first season finale (which landed on 19 October 2025). Her character is the sibling of Anthony Grasso (Fabien Frankel). That finale packed in the drama — Anthony came clean to Frankie about some nasty secrets involving Lizzie Stover’s death and then immediately got caught in an ambush (shot, but lucky, he walked away with his life).
Task: The Big Cast Shuffle
If you thought your favourite actors would carry over, think again: season 2 is swapping out almost everyone. The only familiar faces coming back are Mark Ruffalo, Martha Plimpton, Silvia Dionicio, and Andrew Russel. As for the new lot, it’s not exactly a downgrade — Mahershala Ali has joined the party, along with Harry Melling, Tim Blake Nelson, and Jharrell Jerome. Another twist: Julianne Nicholson will pop in, oddly enough, playing Lori Ross from Mare of Easttown. Yes, you read that right — she’s reprising a character from an entirely different show, presumably for some sort of crossover.
Season two of Task features a brand new ensemble, with a handful of season one regulars and several high-profile additions filling out the cast list.
As for Lilli Kay, she’s not exactly standing still. She recently reunited with Jeremiah Zagar, one of Task’s directors, on another (as yet unnamed) project — describing it as a lovely reunion and a chance to work with people she genuinely rates (Brad Ingelsby and Fabien Frankel among them). She’ll be back on screens for Stick season 2 on 4 November, playing Christina "Zero" Duffy opposite Owen Wilson and Timothy Olyphant. If you need more Kay in your TV diet, she’s previously turned up in Chambers, Your Honor, and Yellowstone.
