Randall Park joins Lindsay Lohan in Mark Waters’ Netflix romance Return to You
Netflix’s upcoming Lindsay Lohan romance with Mean Girls director Mark Waters has nabbed a familiar MCU face — and three more — for its cast.
Bit of a casting shake-up to report on Netflix's side, and it involves a familiar face from the Marvel Cinematic Universe plus a handful of comedy veterans. The film in question? Return to You, a romantic drama that brings Lindsay Lohan back together with director Mark Waters—yes, the bloke behind both Mean Girls and Freaky Friday. For anyone old enough to remember those actual cinema trips, it’s a bit of a reunion tour.
Randall Park (Marvel's Jimmy Woo) has joined the cast of Netflix's Return to You, alongside Ego Nwodim, Victor Garber, and Sloane Pearson.
New faces, familiar history
So, here’s the lineup. Randall Park, who you’ll know as Jimmy Woo if you’ve watched anything Ant-Man-related or WandaVision, is now part of the main cast, playing a chap called Trey. He’s not the only one dialling in; Ego Nwodim (from Saturday Night Live), Victor Garber (Titanic, Alias), and Sloane Pearson have also signed up. Roles are already sorted: Nwodim is Nancy, Garber is Frank Kessler, and Pearson is Taylor. They’ll be joining Lohan, naturally, and Henry Golding—who seems to crop up in every swoony rom-com these days.
- Lindsay Lohan as Kim (the lead)
- Henry Golding as Ben
- Randall Park as Trey
- Ego Nwodim as Nancy
- Victor Garber as Frank Kessler
- Sloane Pearson as Taylor
Set in 2008 (don’t ask me why, presumably for maximum DVD nostalgia), the story’s a bit of an odd one. Lohan’s Kim is a hotshot divorce lawyer—successful on the business front but, of course, desperately lonely. One day, a heartfelt DVD meant for a dying woman’s husband lands in Kim’s post by mistake. Instead of tossing it, she goes full old-school rom-com sleuth, using whatever scraps she can get from the disc to hunt down Ben (Golding), the man who was actually meant to see it. If that sounds convoluted, it’s because it is—but that’s the genre for you.
Return to You brings Lindsay Lohan and Mark Waters back together on a film set for the first time since Mean Girls in 2004.
Lohan’s new Netflix run
This isn’t just a one-off for Lohan on Netflix, by the way. She’s been carving out a niche in their holiday romantic comedy circuit. Remember Falling for Christmas (2022)? She played a spoilt hotel heiress with amnesia—think Overboard, but make it yuletide. Then there was Irish Wish, where she wakes up as the bride before her mate’s wedding, only to realise that what she wished for isn’t what she actually wants. And in 2024, she popped up in Our Little Secret, forced to spend Christmas with her ex because their new partners turn out to be siblings. Could only happen in a Netflix film, honestly.
Outside of this Netflix string, Lohan’s last big splash was in Freakier Friday. That one earned a tidy $153 million worldwide on less than a third of that in budget—a proper hit, even if it didn’t exactly redefine cinema.
