Supriya Ganesh is scrubbing out of HBO Max’s medical drama The Pitt after two seasons. She says she won’t be back for Season 3 and points fans to the executive producers — including Noah Wyle — for answers about the surprise exit.

If you were hoping to see more of Dr Samira Mohan in the third season of HBO Max's medical drama The Pitt, I’ve got bad news: Supriya Ganesh, who played her for two stints, is officially out. For a show with a tendency to whip out rug-pulls, this one's left plenty of fans scratching their heads — and Ganesh herself isn’t exactly spelling it out, either.

So, What Actually Happened?

Ganesh spoke with the Los Angeles Times just as word broke of her departure, and honestly, she sounds about as in the loop as the rest of us. When quizzed about her exit, she pointed the finger—quite politely, mind you—straight at the top brass:

"They work with such intention on the show and make all the choices that they make for that reason, so I think it’s better to ask them for answers."

If you're getting the vibe that this was a 'creative decision' from higher up, you're not alone. Reports earlier in the year already hinted that the producers (including lead-actor-cum-executive-producer Noah Wyle) and writers had decided to write the character out, and Ganesh isn’t contradicting any of that.

All About Goodbyes, Sort Of

Ganesh did get a bit more heartfelt when talking about leaving her castmates, especially Isa Briones (Dr Trinity Santos) and Sepideh Moafi (Dr Baran Al-Hashimi). Clearly, there’s no bad blood there. She told the LA Times she'll 'treasure' the time working with them, and she made a point of saying she felt for the fans who'd been hoping to see more of Samira.

Here’s where things get a bit strange: Dr Mohan didn’t actually get a big send-off. The character’s last appearance was in a fairly understated conversation with Wyle’s Dr Robby Robinavitch—no farewell party, dramatic monologue, or anything a regular viewer would clock as actual closure. If you blinked, you might have missed it.

How Sudden Was This, Really?

Longtime fans reckon the departure feels a bit rushed, but seeing as Samira spent much of Season 2 unsure about which elective to pick, plus wrangling with family drama (especially with her mum), it seems the writers were at least laying the groundwork for a possible exit. Still, it’s not exactly House MD levels of fanfare.

Turns Out, No One’s Safe

  • Who decided?: Producers and writers, with Noah Wyle steering the ship.
  • Why? 'Creative reasons'—take from that what you will.
  • Was this planned?: Depends who you ask. Writers say the show’s built for turnover.
  • Will more characters leave?: According to Wyle (interviewing with Variety), probably. He called this sort of thing 'an inevitability that’s going to happen every season.'
  • When’s Season 3? January 2027—mark your diaries if this sort of slightly masochistic medical drama is your thing.

As for what’s next for Dr Mohan, nobody’s saying much just yet—though Wyle has promised the new season won’t just gloss over her fate. But unless you’re a die-hard, you’ll be forgiven for toggling your expectations accordingly.
