Stream Dev Patel’s New Horror Hit Free—Before It Vanishes
Academy Award nominee Dev Patel’s 2025 psychological horror Rabbit Trap is streaming free now—but not for long. The Magnolia Pictures chiller follows a married couple who retreat to a remote Welsh cabin, only to be undone by the arrival of a mysterious child.
If you’re always hunting for those offbeat horror films that pop up out of nowhere and leave you wondering, 'Wait, how did I miss hearing about this?', there’s one currently streaming you might want to check out—assuming you like eerie cabins, unsettling kids, and Dev Patel. Yep, him.
So here’s the deal: 'Rabbit Trap,' Patel’s new psychological horror flick, just started streaming for free on Pluto TV. But there’s a catch (of course there is). This is a limited-time thing—after May 31, it vanishes from Pluto and you’ll have to find it elsewhere, most likely not for free.
Basic Setup: New Digs, Old Fears
The premise is pretty classic horror: a married couple, Darcy and Daphne Davenport, leave London for a super-remote cottage in Wales. They're hoping the isolation will jumpstart some creative inspiration (side note: when will horror couples learn that rural isolation is never just “peaceful”?).
They start poking around their mossy new surroundings, recording music, and Darcy stumbles across something straight out of old British folklore—a 'faerie circle' that gives off some extremely weird vibes and a noise that, of course, can’t be explained.
Right after that, a mysterious kid shows up, claiming he lives nearby and instantly wants to be buddies. The couple let him hang around—he slides into their lives, sometimes sweet, sometimes raising suspicions, and pretty soon things take a psychological nosedive. Secrets get dragged out, relationships bend (or break), and nothing is as simple as it seemed when they first moved in.
Who’s Involved (and Should You Care)?
- Dev Patel (yes, the Oscar-nominated one) stars in the film
- Rosy McEwen, Jade Croot, and Nicholas Sampson join him in the cast
- Bryn Chainey wrote and directed it
- Produced by a laundry list: Alex Ashworth, Lawrence Inglee, Elisa Lleras, Sean Marley, Martin Metz, Daniel Noah, and Adrian Politowski
The movie first popped up at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival and—if we’re being honest—didn’t exactly set the world on fire. Critics and audiences split on it, and right now it’s holding onto a pretty so-so 48% score on Rotten Tomatoes (that’s 58 reviews, if you’re curious). Not a total disaster, but not exactly a runaway hit either. If you’re drawn to mixed-reaction movies because they tend to either surprise you or turn into cult faves, this could scratch that itch.
In Short
If you’ve got Pluto TV and horror isn’t just a Halloween thing for you, this might be one to put on before June hits. Is it perfect? Nope. Is it at least something different and maybe, just maybe, about to be That Movie you mention to friends when they’re tired of the same old scares? Very possibly.
