Jason Sudeikis has addressed what’s next for Ted Lasso — and whether that still-unconfirmed Season 5 is actually on the cards.

So, Ted Lasso came charging back this August 2026, taking up its boots for a fourth season after a rather ridiculous three-year break. Apple TV+ couldn’t resist, could they? Out came Jason Sudeikis, moustache and all, pulling us right back into AFC Richmond’s world. But now Series 4’s done and dusted, the echoes of applause have barely faded, and fans are already badgering: will Ted Lasso get a fifth season, or was this the final handshake?

Ted Lasso returned for Series 4 in August 2026, its first new episodes since 2023.

The wait and uncertainty

Here’s the thing — despite all the excitement, Apple TV+ still hasn’t bothered to confirm if we’re getting Season 5. Not a peep. Even while the fourth lot of episodes were trickling out, speculation was busy running around social media. Now that the season has finished airing, the rumour mill’s gone into overdrive. Worth knowing: Sudeikis and the writers originally built the show as a neat three-season story arc, and stories have it he was tempted to keep it that tight this time too. No wonder fans are tetchy about what comes next.

Sudeikis wades in

There are plenty of wild guesses circling about whether filming’s about to kick off, but Sudeikis himself has been frank about things not being quite so far along. In an interview with Variety, Sudeikis got straight to the point when asked about another two seasons:

Here’s how Sudeikis put it to Variety:

"[I] would like to... I just don’t know... We haven’t started a writers’ room or anything like that..."

So despite all these juicy 'inside sources' on social media (Sigmund Judge on X, for one, reckons shooting could start in London, January 2027), the man in charge says scripts don’t even exist yet. Which makes you wonder: how’re they launching series five without a single page written? Unless Apple TV+ has worked out time travel, it sounds a bit daft.

Apparently, Sudeikis wasn’t even trying to dodge the question; he admitted he expects Apple would want to keep the show ticking along—if the main cast are game. Ted Lasso clearly means a lot to him; he told Variety it’s “saved him” more than once, so any fresh batch of episodes is more likely to happen if Sudeikis himself takes the first step.

Could stories continue?

Season 4 wrapped up with more than enough plot threads dangling: Keeley and Roy possibly becoming parents, Rebecca patching things up with Zelda—plenty left to resolve in a fifth round, if they want it. But if you’re hoping for quick answers, don’t hold your breath; Sudeikis makes it sound like viewers will have to be properly patient for whatever’s next.
