Andrew Garfield has picked his Spider-Gwen, and it’s Emma Stone. After their Amazing Spider-Man run and his No Way Home return, the actor says Stone should suit up as the live-action hero next.

Andrew Garfield has some thoughts on who should suit up as the next version of Spider-Gwen, and honestly, his answer shouldn’t shock anyone who’s been paying attention to his Marvel universe or his longtime collaborators.

Garfield Gets Asked 'Who Should Be Spider-Gwen?'

So, in an interview with Hits Radio, somebody tossed Andrew Garfield the kind of hypothetical Marvel fans live for: if Emma Stone should return to the web-slinging world, could she possibly don the hood as Spider-Gwen? Garfield’s answer was basically: 'Yeah, why not?' Then he tossed in a curveball by suggesting the whole thing should be directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. Sure, it’s a long shot, but you have to love the visual of Lanthimos tackling a Marvel movie, considering his style is about as weird and arch as any major studio would dare to go.

Why Emma Stone Makes Sense (and Has the Résumé)

Before we get into Garfield’s fantasy Spider-Verse, let’s remember Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield were the on-screen couple at the heart of Sony’s 'The Amazing Spider-Man' series. Garfield played Peter Parker/Spider-Man; Stone was Gwen Stacy, who unfortunately met a very permanent end in the second movie. Garfield came back for 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' several years later for a big multiverse cameo; Stone’s character, however, stayed in the grave.

If Stone did come back as an alternate-universe Spider-Gwen—well, it wouldn’t be that big a stretch, considering the wild stuff Marvel’s already pulled. Garfield’s comment wasn’t just polite ex-boyfriend energy, either. He went out of his way to say:

'Yeah, I think she could do anything. She’s such an incredible actor.'

He’s not wrong. Since her old Spidey days, Stone’s been on a run with Lanthimos, scoring Oscar nominations for 'The Favourite,' 'Poor Things,' and next year’s 'Bugonia' (she actually won for 'Poor Things'). That’s about as solid a credentials list as you’ll see.

The 'No Way Home' Reunion Was Looser Than We Thought

Garfield also looked back at his MCU return in 'No Way Home,' admitting that he genuinely didn’t expect fans to care so much about his version of Peter Parker, years after his movies had come and gone. Here’s where things get a little behind-the-scenes:

  • According to Garfield, a lot of the multi-Spidey scenes were completely improvised. The actors were just thrown together and told to have their characters swap stories and see what happened.
  • He said the whole vibe was 'just long takes and see if there’s any gold in there'—and apparently, there was plenty. Garfield seemed honestly surprised at how touching the result turned out, making it especially meaningful to share the screen with Tobey Maguire, who he remembers as the Spider-Man of his own childhood.

Garfield summed it up as 'meta, personal, and perfect,' sounding grateful that he even got to be part of it.

Would Marvel Go for It?

All this is pure speculation—a fun 'what if' that nods to Garfield and Stone’s real-world history and Stone’s current high-brow career. A Spider-Gwen comeback directed by Lanthimos would probably melt half the internet, but for now, it’s just Andrew Garfield dreaming out loud in a radio interview. Still, you can’t say the guy doesn’t know how to pitch a movie fans would show up for.
