Spider-Man’s Brand New Day Leaps Into the Future as Peter Parker Unveils an AI Sidekick
EW’s three-page scoop cracks open Spider-Man: Brand New Day: the film leaps forward in time and arms Peter Parker with an AI assistant, signaling a bold reset from the very first scene.
So, some fresh details just dropped on 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day,' and if you thought Peter Parker's life couldn't get more complicated, buckle up. The new script pages—straight from the folks over at EW—have given us an early peek at where things are headed for everyone's favorite webhead.
Picking Up After The Multiverse Mess
Here’s the setup: the new film isn’t starting right where 'No Way Home' left off. Instead, there’s a nine-month jump. Peter’s now solo in a new apartment, and that magical 'erase me from everyone’s memory' move by Doctor Strange left him a complete stranger to MJ and Ned. To make things even rougher, the movie opens with Peter revisiting that emotional letter he wrote MJ—yep, the one he never managed to hand over.
And, because Peter Parker's life just can’t let up, he’s basically not coping that well. The script actually notes he’s dealing with 'a small, sharp headache' at the jump. Given how specific that detail is, you can bet it’s important to the plot—could be physical, emotional, or, knowing Marvel, a little bit of both.
Peter Parker Gets His Own AI Buddy
Since there’s no more Tony Stark lending life advice or handing out high-tech toys, Peter’s been forced to get creative. That’s the cue for a new character on the tech side: E.V., Peter’s personally-built AI assistant. If you’re thinking 'JARVIS but on a budget,' you’re not wrong. Director Destin Daniel Cretton apparently describes E.V. as 'the closest thing Peter has to a friend' these days. So, he’s that lonely.
E.V. helps Peter on the gadget front, too. He’s whipped up a homemade fabricator—this thing’s described as a '3D printer on steroids,' and honestly, it sounds exactly like what a broke genius superhero would have in his closet.
Who’s Swinging In This Time?
- Tom Holland is back as Peter Parker/Spider-Man (at this point, not surprising—but always good to have him locked in)
- Zendaya returns as MJ (even though, narratively, she doesn’t know Peter anymore)
- Jacob Batalon is back as Ned Leeds (ditto on the memory wipe)
- Jon Bernthal joins as Frank Castle (yes, The Punisher; let the speculation begin)
- Michael Mando comes in as Mac Gargan, a.k.a. Scorpion (finally following up on that tease from 'Homecoming')
- Mark Ruffalo shows up as Bruce Banner/Hulk (because apparently, every MCU movie gets at least one Avenger cameo now)
- Sadie Sink and Tramell Tillman are in mystery roles. If you believe every rumor on the internet (dangerous, but fun), Sink is up for Jean Grey, and Tillman might be playing someone called 'Bill'—which some folks think is short for William Metzger, a Marvel baddie
Behind The Scenes & Release Date
'Shang-Chi' director Destin Daniel Cretton is calling the shots this time, working from a script by regular Spidey scribes Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. Producing, once again, are Marvel mainstays Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal.
You’ll have to wait a bit for all this to shake out—'Brand New Day' isn’t set to hit theaters until July 31, 2026. Mark your calendar if you’re the organized type, or just circle back as the hype inevitably ramps up.
The script describes E.V. as 'the closest thing Peter has to a friend.'
So, we’re getting a lonelier Peter, fresh gadgets, some big wildcard characters, and probably a headache that means more than we think. In other words, classic Parker luck—and a mix of old and new faces that could shake up the MCU’s next Spider-Man swing.
