Christopher Chung, who you’ll know as Roddy Ho, has let slip a bit of news about when we can expect the show’s next run, and honestly, it’s impressive how reliable this drama’s schedule has become given the chaos elsewhere in telly land.
Slow Horses delivered both its first and second series in 2022 and has stuck to one per year since: series three in 2023, four in 2024, five in 2025, and now, six launching 16 September 2026.
What’s happening with Series 7?
Chung was chatting to ScreenRant at the Toronto International Film Festival for the world premiere of Season 6, and while he was careful not to say too much, his comments made it clear that a 2027 arrival is firmly in the pipeline. Asked if Series 7 would turn up then, he said:
‘I think that’s the plan,’ before adding that the production schedule has run 'pretty much like clockwork since season 3.'
No official date has been locked in, so don’t start clearing your calendars for a specific month just yet—Apple’s not put a stamp on it, and you know how these things can move if the streamer’s schedule gets too packed. But based on past launches, an autumn premiere feels very likely, as that’s generally been their preferred window after the first run.
Filming, New Bosses, and the Next Novel
The cameras for this next series actually stopped rolling a while back. According to Gary Oldman—who’s basically the face of the show at this point—they planned to start shooting in October 2025, and now word is that filming is done and dusted already. So, most of the heavy lifting for Series 7 has clearly happened behind the scenes.
Plenty’s changing out of sight too. Ben Vanstone is stepping in as writer for Season 7. Original showrunner Will Smith left after Season 5, and Gaby Chiappe looked after the scripts for Series 6. The plot itself is totally under wraps, so don’t expect teasers dripping with secrets any time soon. As for official word on a Series 8—that’s still outstanding. The only hint is from Oldman himself, who said in the past that Slow Horses could carry on as long as Apple keeps saying yes and Mick Herron keeps cranking out more Slough House novels.
Meanwhile, Season 6 is coming in hot, opening with a full 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, which isn’t a small thing, even for a critical darling like this. The upshot is: if everyone stays keen and Herron keeps writing, we might well see this oddball crew shuffling on until 2028 or beyond.
