Josh Brolin says Sicario 3 is happening — his co-star from both films has not even had a call
One Sicario star says a return for Part 3 would be a 'dream' — though, awkwardly, they haven’t been contacted about it yet.
Here we go again with the Sicario franchise — and this time, it’s Jeffrey Donovan doing the talking. If you’ve been wondering who’s itching to get back in front of the camera for Sicario 3, it sounds like Donovan is absolutely keen, if not already expecting the call any minute now. Only problem: he hasn’t actually heard from anyone making the film. Honestly, you almost want to ring the producers yourself at this point.
Donovan said in a recent chat, 'It would be a dream to be part of it. I haven’t received a call, so I don’t know anything about it. ... I would love to be part of it. It’s an amazing, I’ll call it a franchise. I think Sicario, the first one, is one of the best movies in the last 30 years. So I am very grateful to be part of it.'
So, he’s clearly got love for the series, big respect for where it all started, but as of now he’s just as much in the dark about the actual details as the rest of us. Make of that what you will; in Hollywood terms, no news isn’t always bad news, it just means nobody’s got an offer on the table yet.

Who Else Is Talking?
Recently, Josh Brolin, who’s been part of both previous Sicario films, piped up with a bit more confidence about the prospects for Sicario 3. He told ScreenRant that the third film 'is happening' and suggested work might actually start up 'soon.' Of course, in film industry speak, 'soon' can mean next month or somewhere around the heat death of the universe, so don’t clear your schedule just yet. Still, Brolin saying it’s real means there’s probably movement happening behind the scenes.
No Plot, No Date, Just Whispers
The Sicario franchise — beginning with the 2015 original and followed by Sicario: Day of the Soldado in 2018 — has made its name through tense, merciless stories about American government operatives waging a truly nasty covert war against Mexican drug cartels. There’s a thread running from a former Mexican prosecutor turned assassin, lots of mud, night-vision goggles, and everyone making slightly different moral compromises every five minutes. Despite the behind-the-scenes chatter, there isn’t even a hint of a release date or any official announcement of the cast for part three.
Sicario 3 currently has no release date and nothing is confirmed publicly about its storyline or cast.
No one’s giving up any secrets just yet, then. For now, Donovan joins the list of actors who would clearly love to saddle up for another round, but is probably still waiting by the phone.
