As recently as December 2025, George Clooney himself told the world that another sequel is finally taking shape and, crucially, that most of the original crew would be back on deck—including Roberts, Damon, Don Cheadle, Brad Pitt, and Andy Garcia (once again suiting up as Terry Benedict, professional fun-spoiler and casino owner). For a brief, shining moment, it looked like someone had finally counted the votes, signed the forms, and made it official.
But then Matt Damon stepped in. While on press rounds in January 2026, Damon—he's Linus, the nervy pickpocket—basically said he hadn’t actually seen anything like a greenlight just yet. Instead, he said he kept hearing rumours about a new film, but there's no script to read and plenty of logistics still unresolved. This is how he put it when asked if the gang’s really getting back together:
"You know, we have to get a script, we have to get, you know, there's a lot of ducks we have to get in a row. I do know that everybody would love to do it. You know, the group of people would love to get back together."
Translation: wishful thinking, yes, but nothing concrete on his desk just yet.

The Story’s Real Twist: George Clooney the Screenwriter
Now, here's the curveball—George Clooney himself has apparently taken up scripting duties for this new instalment, which is a bit of a departure. He didn’t write any of the first three Ocean’s films, but he’s not exactly green; Clooney’s co-written a handful of films (with Grant Heslov and occasionally the Coen Brothers), including Good Night, and Good Luck, The Ides of March, and The Monuments Men. "We're figuring that out now. George wrote a banger of a script that's actually worth getting up and telling another one, so we're gonna do it."

Who’s at the Helm? Not Soderbergh
If you’re expecting Steven Soderbergh’s signature style—snappy editing, daft camera tricks—you’ll have to recalibrate. The director for Ocean's Fourteen is now David Leitch, who you’ll know from The Fall Guy and Atomic Blonde. Leitch is stepping in for Soderbergh, so you can bet there’ll be a different flavour to the film this time—though how that plays out, only time will tell.
