Stephen Graham starts filming Heat 2 this week — and is the first to confirm Adam Driver is in it
Michael Mann’s Heat 2 is shooting with Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale and Stephen Graham — and Adam Driver has finally been named on record.
Well, we finally have official movement on Heat 2, the sequel decades in the making. Michael Mann’s iconic LA heist film from 1995 is getting a proper follow-up — and the cast is no less than impressive. After plenty of chatter, we now know who is officially involved, thanks to a slip (or was it a tease?) from one of the key new faces.
Stephen Graham confirmed on Virgin Radio UK that he’ll start filming on Heat 2 this week, joining Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale on set.
Fresh faces, familiar shadows
The new film is bringing in some serious firepower. Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale were already announced, and now Stephen Graham is officially joining the line-up. If you’ve seen any recent British crime flick, you’ll know Graham’s knack for magnetic, dangerous characters — a good fit for Mann’s LA underworld. Graham name-dropped DiCaprio and Bale in his on-air announcement and then let slip another bit that should fuel rumour mill regulars: Adam Driver.

Driver’s been linked to Heat 2 since the project got a greenlight back in 2023, but this is the first time anyone involved has acknowledged it on record. Graham didn’t say a word about Driver’s character, but anyone who’s laid eyes on Mann’s recent novel knows Driver is tipped to play Otis Wardell, the sequel’s main antagonist — the villain to watch. None of the recast leads from the original (De Niro’s Neil McCauley, Pacino’s Vincent Hanna, Val Kilmer’s Chris Shiherlis) are returning, so expect new actors — and, at this rate, new energy — in those central roles.

That’s all that’s public so far — and the studio’s being cagey with the details. Other casting announcements are surely on the way, given the original ensemble and the scope Mann seems to be hinting at. For now, with shooting firing up in earnest, the sequel’s passed the point of rumour and drifted firmly into reality.
