Robert Pattinson has confirmed The Batman Part II is back in production after a brief pause — and he’s revealed exactly when he’ll be back on set.

Right, some interesting news out of the DC world, and not the sort that usually comes out of Gotham. Robert Pattinson has confirmed that The Batman Part II is officially back on track after a minor hiccup, and he’s even given us the exact timing for his own return to the cowl. There’s a bit of a twist in the tale as well: Steven Soderbergh, not exactly known for capes and cowls, has stepped in to help director Matt Reeves finish things off. If that’s not a bit unexpected, I don’t know what is.

Soderbergh Steps In

Pattinson let the cat out of the bag in an interview while promoting his latest film, Primetime. Cameras have started rolling again for the sequel, he says, after shooting was paused at the start of the month when Reeves had to step away due to a family emergency. But now, production is back in gear, and Pattinson will be back on set in just a few days. Not one to shy away from praise, he made it quite clear how he feels about Soderbergh coming aboard.

Here’s what Pattinson told GamesRadar+ about Soderbergh joining the project recently:

I am so happy he's come on to help Matt. It's incredibly generous of him – and he's doing it in the loveliest way. It's completely selfless.

According to DC Studios, it was actually Soderbergh himself who approached Reeves, offering to finish the shoot and see it through to the end, all under the studio’s full backing. Reeves, for his part, assured fans on social media that he’s not jumping ship; he’ll still be overseeing post-production together with Soderbergh.

Pattinson also gave a nod to all the heavy lifting Reeves had already done on the sequel’s script, saying the film is nearly finished principal photography. Soderbergh’s job is to bring it all home, effectively collaborating with Reeves rather than taking over outright—a proper team effort rather than a last-minute swap.

Who's Back in Gotham?

If you’re wondering who’s clocking in for the sequel, Pattinson returns as the not-so-jolly Batman, with Andy Serkis back as Alfred and Colin Farrell reprising Penguin. New names in the mix include Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Brian Tyree Henry, Jayme Lawson, Charles Dance, Gil Perez-Abraham, and Sebastian Koch. Not a bad bit of casting, really.

The Batman Part II opens in cinemas on 18 February 2028.
