Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is pouncing back on Vudu, with Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek’s feline sequel clawing into watchlists more than three years after its theatrical debut.

Apparently, animated cats just don’t know when to quit. 'Puss in Boots: The Last Wish'—that’s the Shrek spinoff with Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek still voicing cartoon cats with way more charisma than most live actors—has clawed its way back onto the streaming charts. Yes, more than three years after it hit theaters, people still can’t get enough of this swashbuckling feline on Vudu.

The Nine Lives of Puss in Boots

Let’s talk numbers, since they tell a pretty fun story here:

  • As of April 7, 2026, 'Puss in Boots: The Last Wish' landed at #10 on Vudu’s most-watched movies chart in the US, per FlixPatrol (these folks track this kind of VOD and streaming data, so we don’t have to).
  • The movie’s been lurking around the platform’s Top 10 for ten straight days.
  • Up at the top spots: 'Avatar: Fire and Ash' (no surprise) and 'The Super Mario Bros. Movie', which refuses to leave the rankings either.

How Did This Cat Keep Landing on Its Feet?

For those who need a refresher on why this movie keeps reappearing like your neighbor’s cat who knows you have treats: the sequel originally came out in December 2022, directed by Joel Crawford, and pulled in a staggering $480.4 million worldwide. No small fries for a Shrek spinoff, right?

If you care about critics (and apparently a lot of people on Rotten Tomatoes do), it scored a whopping 95% approval. Reviewers called it 'smart, sweet, and funny.' And it wasn’t just popular with audiences—this thing scored major award nominations: Oscar, Golden Globe, BAFTA, and Critics’ Choice for Best Animated Feature. Decent flex for a talking cat in boots.

The Release Shuffle

What’s also wild is how quickly and often this movie made the rounds on streaming services. After its theatrical window, Universal dropped it on digital just 16 days later (January 6, 2023), bounced it to Peacock in March, and then Netflix in July the same year. On top of that, it has racked up a tidy $7.6 million in home media sales across all those platforms. That’s one busy furball.

The Vudu Chart: A Mixed Bag

FlixPatrol’s April 7 chart is kind of a weird time capsule. Alongside 'Puss in Boots', you had horror sequels like 'Scream 7', sports stuff like 'GOAT', yet another ‘Fast & Furious’ installment, and—because it was Easter, apparently—both 'The Passion of the Christ' and 'The Ten Commandments'. Oh, and creepiest of all, 'The Housemaid', which has haunted Vudu’s Top 10 for 60 days straight.

Still Making Bank For DreamWorks

Three years later, the cat with the big eyes and bigger attitude is still a cash machine. Deadline crunched the numbers and pegged 'The Last Wish' as their #8 ‘Most Valuable Blockbuster’ of 2022, with a net profit of $120.2 million. It remains one of DreamWorks Animation’s most-watched titles across home entertainment.

As weird as it sounds, you can’t count out these boots. If you ever felt like the world had moved on from this franchise, Vudu’s Top 10 would like to have a word.
