Robert De Niro isn’t ready to roll credits on his partnership with Martin Scorsese, saying he wants at least one more project together. Sounds like one of cinema’s defining duos might not be done yet.

Look, I know we all get misty-eyed at the thought of Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro teaming up. They’re one of those rare director-actor combos that just delivers, time after time. But, like it or not, both of them aren’t exactly spring chickens these days. Still, there’s hope for more. De Niro’s said he reckons we’ll get ‘at least another one’ out of him and Marty. Go on then, twist my arm.

De Niro’s Not Done Yet

Chatting to GQ, De Niro got a bit reflective about his ten-film run with Scorsese so far. Here’s how he puts it:

‘I know I was fortunate to be able to do 10 movies with him. And maybe we’ll do more, or at least another one, hopefully. Who knows?’

For reference, those ten films are an absolute roll call: Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, New York, New York, Raging Bull, The King of Comedy, Goodfellas, Cape Fear, Casino, The Irishman, and, most recently, Killers of the Flower Moon. Is it a bit much to want more? Maybe. But honestly, who cares?

Scorsese’s Next Trick: What Happens at Night

While everyone’s waiting for the next De Niro-Scorsese reunion, Scorsese’s currently deep into making a psychological horror called What Happens at Night. Now, this isn’t a low-key indie either. The cast is stacked: Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Patricia Clarkson, Mads Mikkelsen, and Jared Harris—all along for the ride.

The premise is a bit wild. It’s described as a 'dream-like story' about an American couple heading to a snowy part of Europe to adopt a baby. They hole up in a massive, mostly empty hotel, where they’re surrounded by a bunch of oddballs: you’ve got a flamboyant singer, a dodgy businessman, and a charismatic faith healer, just for starters. Unsurprisingly, nothing is quite what it seems. The further they get into trying to adopt their baby, the less sure they are about themselves or their own lives. Classic Scorsese weirdness.

Apple’s footing the bill for this one. The script’s by Patrick Marber—bit of a specialist in intense drama, if you’ve seen Notes on a Scandal—and it’s all adapted from Peter Cameron’s novel, which means, yes, there will be plenty of existential crisis and chill.

De Niro’s Next Move: Back to the Fockers

If you thought De Niro was slowing down—think again. He’s reviving the Fockers franchise with a new entry: Focker-in-Law. That’s right, the gang’s mostly back together. The main cast includes:

  • Robert De Niro
  • Ben Stiller
  • Teri Polo
  • Blythe Danner
  • Owen Wilson
  • Skyler Gisondo (as Henry, Greg and Pam’s son)
  • Beanie Feldstein (as Samantha, Henry’s sister)
  • Ariana Grande, who’s apparently playing a ‘ballbuster’ engaged to Henry

This new one is out in cinemas on 25 November. If you’re a completionist or just can’t get enough of the in-laws bickering, mark your calendar.
