McG teams with Kevin Hart for a high-octane Netflix action comedy that throws two rival spies into a head-on collision, backed by a powerhouse lineup of producers.

Netflix seems to crank out more action comedies than you can throw a remote at, but here's one that actually got my attention: McG and Kevin Hart are teaming up for a new, as-yet-untitled movie. If you're thinking 'That's a weird combo,' you're not wrong—but it makes a certain sense if you look at their resumes.

Who's making this thing?

McG is in the director's chair—yeah, the guy behind The Babysitter, Charlie's Angels (the camptastic big screen ones), and Terminator Salvation (which... let's not talk about). Kevin Hart will lead the cast, delivering more of the hyperactive energy and one-liners he's known for from films like Jumanji and Central Intelligence.

Now for the heavy-hitter producers. You've got Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, and Emily Morris on board—the same trio behind Stranger Things and basically every Netflix sci-fi hit in the last decade. Ryan Reynolds' production company, Maximum Effort, is also part of the mix, which is a good sign; those folks teamed up with 21 Laps for Free Guy and The Adam Project.

Hart is doubling up behind the scenes, too, producing via his Hartbeat company along with Luke Kelly-Clyne and Dryan Smiley. So basically, a lot of seasoned hands in the kitchen.

Here's the premise

This is where it gets goofy. The story follows two spies (Hart is one; no word yet on who plays the rival) who run into each other in a Lamaze class. Their wives become instant friends, which means their secret lives clash in all the awkward, dangerous, and ridiculous ways you can imagine. Picture rival James Bonds trying to keep it together through breathing exercises—because that's apparently what we're getting.

'Two rival spies cross paths in a Lamaze class as their wives become fast friends. With their double lives colliding in unexpectedly hilarious and dangerous ways, the two men are forced to reluctantly become confidantes and partners on the road to fatherhood.'

That actually sounds fun, and yes, incredibly contrived (but let's be honest—that's most action comedies).

Who's writing it?

  • Adam and Aaron Nee (The Lost City)
  • Jonathan Tropper (known for This Is Where I Leave You, also See on Apple TV+)
  • They're working off a story by Sean Lewis.

So, we've got enough comedy/action pedigree in the writers' room to expect something punchy and pretty fast-paced.

What else are McG and Hart up to?

Neither of these guys is exactly new to Netflix. Hart has stacked up several film and stand-up specials for the streamer. As for McG, pretty much everything he's touched in recent years has gone straight to the platform: The Babysitter (honestly, his best), Rim of the World, Killer Queen, Family Switch, and Uglies.

McG's most recent movie, Way of the Warrior Kid (still in the action-comedy zone, but this time for the family crowd), stars Chris Pratt, Linda Cardellini, and Jude Hill. Not exactly a spy-vs-spy Lamaze class, but in the same wheelhouse.

Hart, meanwhile, just finished shooting the next Jumanji flick—Jumanji: Open World. That's apparently the last lap for this video-game-turned-actual-game universe. Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan are all back for more digital jungle hijinks.

So there you have it—Netflix is cranking up the hype machine for a McG-directed, Kevin Hart-starring spy comedy. Lamaze class shootouts incoming. If you're rolling your eyes, hey, at least it's not another true-crime docuseries.
