Ready to watch The Odyssey at home? The $1.8 billion movie goes digital next
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is swapping the multiplex for your living room next, with a digital debut imminent and 4K UHD and Blu-ray releases lining up behind it.
Christopher Nolan's latest behemoth, The Odyssey, is about to set sail on digital, after cleaning up at the box office in the way only a Nolan film really can. If you missed it in cinemas — or just fancy another go at the high-gloss ancient Greece — you'll be able to catch it in your own living room very soon. Let's go through the need-to-knows.
The Odyssey's digital release lands just under two weeks from now: 17 November 2026.
From Ancient Epic to Billion-Dollar Blockbuster
This isn't your nan's Homer adaptation. Nolan's taken the odyssey of Odysseus — off the back of the Trojan War and straight through a gauntlet of monsters and mythical headaches — and pumped it up to $1.8 billion at the global box office. Universal opened the movie on 17 July, and it's clear the appetite for olive oil and revenge remains strong: it's done $625.5 million domestically and another $1.1 billion everywhere else (cheers, Box Office Mojo).
The cast is as excessive as the journey itself: Matt Damon takes the lead as Odysseus, Tom Holland tags along as Telemachus, with Anne Hathaway as a suspiciously modern Penelope. You also get Robert Pattinson swaggering about as Antinous, Zendaya playing Athena, and Charlize Theron letting her hair down as Calypso. Basically, if you're an A-lister, you're either cracking a skull or plotting something sinister here.
The Numbers, The Reviews, The Hype
It's not just a money machine — the actual critical feedback is proper robust. Rotten Tomatoes currently puts it at 94% from critics (on 515 reviews, so it's no statistical fluke), and the audience have it even higher at 96%. GQ summed up the general attitude with a verdict that, quite frankly, I can't disagree with — Nolan's gone less for highfalutin' 'classical tragedy', more for 'Let’s see what happens if we throw a monster at Matt Damon and boot up the IMAX.' You know the vibe: enormous budget, eye-watering technical polish, and all of the mythic spectacle you could ask for.
- The Odyssey releases digitally on 17 November 2026 (with 4K UHD and Blu-ray to follow, in case you still actually buy discs).
- Directed and written by Christopher Nolan, pinching the plot from Homer's ancient Greek poem, but with a bit more spectacle and a few more zeroes.
- Star cast includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron — it’s basically an Oscar red carpet dropped into a shipwreck.
- Box office earnings sit right around $1.8 billion worldwide — yes, really — with a shade over $600 million in the US and everything else coming from everywhere else that still fancies a Greek saga.
- Critical reception: Rotten Tomatoes says 94% critic approval; audience nudges that up to 96%.
If you didn't get a chance to check it out during its cinematic run, or maybe just want to see if Damon survives a run-in with a Cyclops in 4K, you've not long to wait — the digital Odyssey begins in November.
