Prime Video Sets The Rings of Power Season 3 Premiere Date — Here’s When Middle-earth Returns
Middle-earth rides again: after a long delay, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has locked its season 3 premiere on Prime Video.
If you thought the pipeline of Tolkien adaptations was drying up, think again—there's a lot more Middle-earth content on the way than you might realize. Everyone's buzzing about The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, but that's just one project in a much bigger picture. Before we even get to that Gollum movie (which still feels years away), Amazon is making sure we won't go into 2027 without some fresh orc-battling, elf-drama, or dwarven political intrigue. The next batch is much closer than you'd expect—and we've finally got official confirmation on when to mark our calendars.
‘Rings of Power’ Season 3: Here’s When You’ll See It
If you were hedging your bets on returning to Middle-earth in 2025, surprise: Prime Video is dropping The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3 on November 11, 2026. Now, there had been rumors floating around that the next season would squeak in this year, but those hopes have been officially dashed. This date does handily land the new season ahead of that big Harry Potter reboot everyone keeps talking about (December on HBO Max, if you care about wizard-on-wizard action), so Amazon is making a play to have Middle-earth front and center as the holidays approach.
Judging by the way Amazon's talking, they're more hyped than ever to keep this train rolling. In the words of Peter Friedlander, the guy in charge of global TV for Amazon/MGM:
'From the very beginning, this series has embodied the scale, ambition, and cinematic storytelling that define Prime Video’s biggest global series. The extraordinary response from millions of fans around the world has made it clear that this journey through Middle-earth continues to resonate, and that momentum has only grown heading into Season 3.'
Marketing-speak, sure, but hey—it’s not nothing.
What Season 3 Actually Covers
Let’s set the scene: The Rings of Power tells stories from an era thousands of years before Frodo, Bilbo, or Peter Jackson’s slow-motion battle scenes. We're talking ancient Middle-earth, right as the power struggles, epic kingdoms, and seriously questionable jewelry-making were only just getting started. This is the ‘Second Age,’ which means you get a lot of backstory on how the world (and big bad Sauron) got so screwed up in the first place.
The show’s an ensemble piece, so you’ll see both familiar and totally new characters. Amazon’s not skimping on the locations, either—
- Misty Mountains (expect secretive dwarves and probably a cave troll or two)
- Lindon (elves, politics, and lots of golden lighting)
- The island kingdom of Númenor (bad omens, bigger boats, odd helmets—take your pick)
- A bunch of far-flung corners only Tolkien diehards have memorized
That setup means not only 'who will survive the darkness', but 'which kingdoms will even be left standing by the end.' And yes, Sauron’s back to ruin everyone’s day again—he just can't help himself.
And on the Horizon…
If you're wondering about the big-screen return with The Hunt for Gollum, well, you'll have to hang tight until at least 2027 for that. But in the meantime, Rings of Power Season 3 is officially locked in, and Amazon is firing up Middle-earth again this November—at least, for those who subscribe to Prime Video. If Amazon drops any more major news (casting shakeups, surprise cameos, or anything that actually ties to the Peter Jackson films), you’ll hear it from me. For now, dust off your Elvish dictionary and start planning your Second Age rewatch spree.
