Prime Video Just Handed The Rings of Power a Major Season 4 Win
Middle-earth faithful can exhale: Prime Video’s The Rings of Power is quietly lining up a fourth season, with a fresh update calming renewal jitters even without an official nod—just as Season 3 eyes a late 2026 debut.
If you thought The Rings of Power would be vanishing off into the Grey Havens any time soon, think again. The rumour mill has been spinning about whether or not we’d see a fourth series, but the latest behind-the-scenes news has cleared that up – and it’s good news for fans who were already mapping out their 2026 TV schedules.
Season 4: Not Official… But Definitely Happening
Right, before anyone gets too carried away – no, there’s still not a splashy, all-caps press release from Prime Video. But according to a recent report from The Hollywood Reporter (they don’t tend to just make things up), The Rings of Power Season 4 is already in pre-production. Yes, the ink’s barely dry on the Season 3 scripts and the powers that be are moving straight on to the next one. Cameras are supposed to start rolling in early 2027, which is a bit of a wait, but at least it’s happening.
Where We Are Now, and Who’s Involved
The show, if you’ve somehow missed it, is Prime Video’s attempt to turn J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings backstory into a glossy epic telly event. The first season turned up back in 2022, and the same creative duo – J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay – are still running the ship as both co-creators and executive producers.
Main Cast (So Far):
- Robert Aramayo as Elrond
- Morfydd Clark as Galadriel
- Ismael Cruz Córdova as Arondir
- Charlie Vickers as Sauron himself, in all his pointy-armoured glory
- Owain Arthur as Durin IV
- Cynthia Addai-Robinson as Míriel
- Trystan Gravelle as Pharazôn
- Benjamin Walker as Gil-galad
- Daniel Weyman as Gandalf (yes, that Gandalf – eventually)
- New faces for Season 3: Jamie Campbell Bower, Andrew Richardson, Zubin Varla, and Adam Young
And the backroom gang: besides Payne and McKay, you’ve got exec producers Lindsey Weber, Callum Greene, Justin Doble, Jason Cahill, Gennifer Hutchison, and Charlotte Brändström. On the actual production end, Kate Hazell, Helen Shang, Clare Buxton, Andrew Lee, Glenise Mullins, and Matthew Penry-Davey are involved. Quite the roll call – almost as many line producers as there are elves in Mirkwood.
Big Numbers, Bigger Expectations
The cynical view would be that Prime would never just walk away from a cash-printing IP, but the numbers back it up. The Rings of Power boasts a whopping 185 million global viewers so far, which puts it up there with Prime Video’s crown jewels. It’s not just people doomscrolling, either – the 84% score on Rotten Tomatoes suggests actual human beings (well, critics) quite like it as well.
When’s It Back?
If you were hoping all this meant a quick turnaround, sorry – there’s a bit of a wait on. Season 3 is set to arrive 11 November 2026. After that, if the current schedule sticks, filming for Season 4 kicks off in early 2027, so whatever happens next in Middle-earth, it’ll be a while before we see it.
