Paradise may end with Season 3, but executive producer John Hoberg is already shaping a spinoff built around the blink-and-you-miss-them characters fans have only glimpsed.

So, 'Paradise' fans, here we are: the show's wrapping up after its upcoming third season, but apparently the world might not be done just yet. John Hoberg, who wears both the writer and executive producer hats, has been kicking around a possible spinoff idea that actually sounds... surprising? Especially since it focuses on characters most people might barely remember.

What's Hoberg Thinking?

In a recent chat, Hoberg basically confirmed there are zero official plans for a spinoff or anything like that—nobody's making any announcements. But that hasn't stopped him from daydreaming out loud about something he refers to as 'Cancer Cowboys.'

If that phrase rings a faint, weird bell, that's probably because these 'Cancer Cowboys' were Link's crew—the folks traveling around after 'The Day,' dealing with the small problem of active nuclear reactors all over the place (because apparently nothing says post-apocalypse like trying not to turn into radioactive soup).

Hoberg's pitch? These are the characters who, in the middle of all the insanity, actually start thinking about how to rebuild, not just survive. And he's got a vibe for them:

'I always kind of pictured them almost like knights, old-style knights.'

Look, that's not what comes to mind when you hear 'Cancer Cowboys,' but you get the idea—unexpected heroism, high-stakes missions, a ragtag bunch with a purpose.

Who Would Be Front and Center?

You'd definitely get more Link, but there'd also be a chance for some of his sidekicks who never really got their spotlight: Geiger (played by Michael McGrady) and Chef (Timothy Omundson). They’ve both been hanging around the edges in the main series, but this would be their time to actually do something memorable.

Big Potential, Not Much Explored

Here's what's actually clever about this spinoff idea: in Season 2, Link suddenly has a network of about 10,000 people ready to storm a bunker. The show... mostly just skips over how that even happens. So there's a lot of untapped story there—enough backstory to easily fill a whole new series if someone wanted to dig in.

Timeline and the (Not-so) Inevitable Spinoff

  • Season 3 is still in pre-production
  • Filming isn't even starting until April 2026 (so, yeah, it's a wait)
  • Dan Fogelman, the creator, is writing the series finale himself
  • Both Fogelman and Hoberg have basically admitted a season 4 is probably not going to happen—the story's just getting too tough to stretch
  • Which means, if the 'Paradise' universe is going to keep going, a spinoff is really the most logical next step

And, for all you universe-expansion types: Hoberg even teases 'four different areas' he'd love to explore. Any one of them could make for 'a really cool place to go to,' in his words.

So: no official spinoff yet, but the folks behind the curtain are clearly thinking about it, and there’s enough weird little corners of this show’s backstory for some genuinely fresh material. Translation: if you’re bummed about 'Paradise' ending after three seasons, there’s a decent shot that’s not actually the end. Stay tuned.
