Oasis Biopic Finally Lands Release Date From Peaky Blinders Creator
Disney is bringing the Oasis story to theaters later this year, a big-screen chronicle of the legendary British band from the creator of Peaky Blinders.
Get ready for a music doc that might actually live up to the hype: Disney is rolling out an as-yet-untitled documentary about Oasis, the famously feuding British band that spent the last 15 years lobbing insults at each other rather than playing music together. Yes, you read that right—both Gallagher brothers, together again, and letting cameras follow every minute of it.
Who's Actually Making This Thing?
This isn't one of those quick cash-in docs either. Steven Knight (the guy responsible for Peaky Blinders) produced and developed it, so expect less rock cliché and more, well, story. Heading up direction are Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace, who know their way around rock legends—they did Meet Me in the Bathroom (about New York's 2000s scene) and Shut Up and Play the Hits (which documented LCD Soundsystem's dramatic swan song).
When and Where?
Circle this date (seriously): the movie hits select IMAX and movie theaters worldwide for a limited run on September 11, 2026. Apparently, that leaves just enough time for the Gallaghers to stage another nuclear fallout before release day. For those not braving the multiplex, it comes to Disney+ (internationally) and both Disney+ and Hulu (in the US) later in the year.
Here's the thing that's really wild: it isn't just dusty old footage from back in the Definitely Maybe era. The documentary is built around the Oasis Live '25 reunion tour. Yes, Noel and Liam are actually getting back on stage together. The tour kicks off July 4 in Cardiff and then makes stops in Manchester, London, Edinburgh, and Dublin, which should give fans (and their security team) plenty to talk about.
What's In the Movie?
- First joint interview in 25 years: The brothers have barely tolerated each other since their 2009 split, so any new footage is newsworthy.
- Fans front and center: Knight says this isn't just a band retrospective—he wanted the fans' stories, too.
- Big themes: Reconciliation, the unifying power of music, the volatile magic of the Gallaghers. No promises on whether they can make it to the final show.
- Slick technical team: Oscar-winning sound mixers James Mather (Top Gun: Maverick) and Tarn Willers (The Zone of Interest), plus cinematographer Haris Zambarloukos (Beetlejuice). So, expect the concert scenes to sound and look massive.
Who Else Is Involved?
The film is a Magna Studios production, with Sony Music Vision and Sony Music Entertainment UK also backing it. Producers Sam Bridger and Guy Heeley are handling the heavy lifting, with a lengthy executive producing roster: Kate Shepherd, Marisa Clifford, Tom Mackay, Krista Wegener, Isabel Davis, and Tim O'Shea.
People Are Pumped (Or Nervous)
Steven Knight says he "genuinely cannot wait for the world to see this film" and promises it captures both the mayhem and genius of the Gallaghers—along with just as much focus on the fans as the famous brothers. Knight claims it's a story about how music can unite people, even when their favorite band can barely stay in the same room.
Eric Schrier, from Disney's streaming arm, is thrilled too, calling this a rare opportunity to "bring an intimate story of reconciliation, the power of music," yada yada, you get it—the company line. Not wrong, though: grabbing the Oasis comeback for both theaters and streaming was a smart play.
In short, this is shaping up to be one of those music docs you'll need to see—if only to see whether Liam and Noel last the tour without another epic meltdown. Stay tuned, and maybe keep the popcorn close at hand. You're gonna want it.
