Berlin is back: Netflix’s hit Money Heist spin-off drops Season 2 today, more than two years after its debut, with Pedro Alonso returning to lead another high-stakes caper.

So, if you were wondering whether Netflix was ever going to dust off that Money Heist spin-off about Berlin and actually do something with it, well, here we are—two years later. Season 2 of Berlin just dropped, so if you’re keen to see what doomed prequel antics Pedro Alonso is up to this time, you can binge all eight episodes of 'Berlin and the Lady with an Ermine' starting today.

The Unkillable Berlin… Is Somehow Still the Star

Now, yes, if you watched the original Money Heist, you remember Berlin died at the end of season one. Like, very dead. But in the Money Heist universe, that’s really just an inconvenience. He spent most of the later seasons coming back in flashbacks, and now we’ve got a whole prequel show built around the guy’s ongoing exploits. If you’re keeping score, this is Berlin’s third act. Pedro Alonso still puts absolutely everything into this role, so if you liked him before, nothing’s changed.

Who’s Pulling Off Jobs This Time?

It’s not just Pedro Alonso hamming it up solo. Most of the Berlin crew returns, and there are a few new faces in the mix for Season 2. Here’s who you’re looking at:

  • Tristán Ulloa is back as Damián, Berlin’s loyal confidant
  • Michelle Jenner plays Keila, the electronics expert
  • Begoña Vargas brings the chaos as Cameron
  • Julio Peña Fernández is Roi
  • Joel Sánchez shows up as Bruce
  • New for Season 2: Inma Cuesta (from 'The Mess You Left Behind'), José Luis García-Pérez ('Honor'), and Marta Nieto ('Mother')

What’s the New Season Actually Doing?

According to Netflix’s extremely specific description, the new episodes are heading to Seville, Spain for another over-the-top heist. Expect to meet colorful locals like Candela (described as 'unpredictable and temperamental'), the Duke of Malaga who sounds like he was custom-designed to eat the scenery ('eccentric and hedonistic,' naturally), and his mysterious duchess. Translation: expect more elaborate costumes and people loudly declaring things in extravagant Spanish mansions.

'Set in Spain, the new heist will take place in Seville. There, Berlin and his gang will encounter new characters such as Candela, an unpredictable and temperamental Sevillian woman; the eccentric and hedonistic Duke of Malaga Álvaro Hermoso de Medina; and his mysterious and refined Duchess of Malaga Genoveva Dante.'

Behind the Scenes (And What’s Next)

The brains behind Berlin are basically the same folks who made Money Heist a global hit: Esther Martínez Lobato and Álex Pina. They handled the writing, along with David Barrocal, Lorena G. Maldonado, and Itziar San Juan, and the directing rotation included Albert Pintó, Barrocal, and Jose Manuel Cravioto.

And while we’re talking future plans: Netflix has already greenlit more out of this world. There’s a new Money Heist show on the way, and—yes—Álvaro Morte will be back as The Professor. Apparently, expanding this universe is more addictive than gold bars.

Quick Recap: How Did People Actually Like Season 1?

Season 1, with the very on-the-nose subtitle The Jewels of Paris, did well enough to get renewed: it scored a pretty solid 70% with reviewers on Rotten Tomatoes. Not rave reviews, but far from a disaster.

So, if you want stylish crime sprees, impossibly lucky escapes, and endless drama about doomed love (with a Spanish accent), Netflix would like to point you toward 'Berlin'—and now, you don’t even need to wait for new episodes, because the whole of Season 2 is right there to stream.
