Critics are hailing Prime Video’s new Muhammad Ali series — early buzz says this one packs a proper punch.

Here we go again with biopics, but this one's got a heavyweight name attached. Michael B. Jordan is stepping out of the ring and into the producer's chair for The Greatest, a fresh Prime Video drama all about the life and times of Muhammad Ali. If you're wondering why yet another Ali drama, well, the critics reckon this one's actually worth your time.

The Greatest currently sits at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, but it's based on just seven critics' reviews.

The show lands as an eight-part limited series, and with a name like Ali on the poster, expectations are predictably sky-high. The difference this time? Reviewers are piling in early with some rather glowing remarks. Seriously, at this rate they'll make you believe it's the sporting drama of the year. The Wrap even went so far as to call it "one of the year's best shows", and that usually takes a bit to coax out of them.

Main Cast and Accolades

In the title role, you've got Jaalen Best taking on Ali — and he's already got people talking. Fandom Wire singled out his performance as "powerful, magnetic", which is saying something considering the number of times Ali's life has been pored over on screen. There's not much else officially out about the supporting cast yet, but with this sort of start, the focus is clearly on Best and how he measures up amongst the biopic heavyweights who've come before.

Early Reception

  • Eight episodes telling the story of Ali in limited series format.
  • Premiering on Prime Video under Michael B. Jordan's watch as producer.
  • Initial Rotten Tomatoes score is a perfect 100%, albeit only from seven critic reviews so far — let's see if it sticks now it's public.
  • Praise focused on the drama's tone and Best's lead performance; critics are calling it inspiring, with some early picks already tipping it as a contender for best-of-year lists.
  • Plenty of previous Ali biopics, but the buzz here is that this one stands out for its energy and depth.
