Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie reunite for Netflix revenge thriller Dogfight
Netflix has announced a new project reuniting Jason Statham with Guy Ritchie, a stylish revenge actioner — and it’s packing a title you’ll want to clock.
If you've been following the ongoing saga of Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie, you'll know they've basically become the Lennon and McCartney of hard-boiled British crime films. The pair first went big with Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels back in the late '90s, and since then Statham usually shows up whenever Ritchie fancies making another stylish smash-up of London lowlifes. Now, somehow, we've got two collaborations on the cards almost at once—one dropping fairly soon, and another just announced by Netflix.
Let's Talk Dogfight
So, about this newly-revealed Netflix movie: Dogfight isn't giving much away when it comes to story. The official line is that it's a "stylish revenge actioner"—which, let's be honest, could describe two thirds of Ritchie's output. Expect another round in the London criminal underworld, with Statham presumably busting heads, muttering threats and, if Ritchie's in a generous mood, getting something a bit clever to say. Production is pencilled in for early 2027, shooting in the UK.
Dogfight marks the seventh film Ritchie and Statham have teamed up on over their careers.
On the behind-the-scenes side, Guy Ritchie isn't just directing—he's also writing and producing. It's a bit of a family affair, to be honest: Ritchie's Toff Guy Films and Statham's Punch Palace Productions are both involved, and Black Bear Pictures is on board as well. Amongst the listed producers: Ritchie, Statham, Ivan Atkinson (another one from Team Toff Guy) and John Friedberg from Black Bear. In other words, it's the usual suspects doing the actual work.
But First, Viva La Madness
If you're tapping your watch waiting for Dogfight, you're in luck—Ritchie and Statham have already wrapped filming on something else before cameras roll on Dogfight. That one is called Viva La Madness, and the situation with it is just a tad convoluted, so let's clear it up.
This is based on the JJ Connolly novel which is a sequel to his Layer Cake book. Now, if you remember the 2004 film Layer Cake—the one with Daniel Craig—it was also written by Connolly but directed by Matthew Vaughn. Here's where it gets twisty: Viva La Madness is not connected to Vaughn's film at all, even though it's based on the book that follows on from the original Layer Cake novel. Essentially, Ritchie and Connolly (who both wrote the script this time) are treating Viva La Madness as its own standalone beast. No Layer Cake movie sequel here, just a fresh start with some familiar criminal chaos.
The cast on this one's worth a look: Vinnie Jones returns to join Statham and Ritchie for a proper throwback, plus you'll spot Jason Isaacs (best known from White Lotus and Harry Potter), Babs Olusanmokun (Dune), Camila Mendes (Riverdale), Ben Foster (Hell or High Water), Jonny Lee Miller (The Crown), and even singer Raúl Alejandro making an appearance.
