Animation is already sinking its teeth into Marvel Zombies Season 2, hinting at a Halloween 2027 launch.

So, Marvel Zombies isn’t done shambling just yet. After dropping its first batch of episodes six months ago, Marvel Studios has finally confirmed that the animated spin-off is officially coming back for round two. Honestly, this is a bit of a surprise, since Marvel isn’t exactly churning out second seasons for every new show these days.

Production Is Already Moving (and Apparently It’s Nuts)

The scoop comes from Brad Winderbaum – the big boss at Marvel Television – who casually dropped the news during a guest spot on Escape Pod. While talking shop, he got a little too enthusiastic about what he’s already seen from Season 2:

'I don’t think it’s a spoiler, but I saw the first animatic of the first episode of Marvel Zombies Season 2 and… it was crazy… I can’t say anything about it, but it delivers not just on like Zombies but also on an MCU thing that has never really happened before that we’re very excited to do.'

Translation: They’re not just leaning into the zombie chaos—there’s something genuinely new coming for the MCU in this next round. Whatever it is, Winderbaum was hyped enough to risk Marvel’s sniper drones just to tease it.

Quick Recap: Marvel Zombies Season 1

If you missed it, Marvel Zombies spun out of that delightfully ridiculous 'What If...Zombies!' episode from the first season of What If...? Rather than a one-off, Marvel decided to stretch the undead storyline into its own little apocalyptic corner. The series picks up in an alternate MCU, basically right before Infinity War, where a zombie virus runs rampant through Earth’s mightiest heroes (and not-so-heroes).

One cool bit: Season 1 didn’t just recycle Avengers from Phase 1 to 3. They actually pulled in some newer faces—Ms. Marvel, Shang-Chi, Yelena Belova, Riri Williams/Ironheart, and even Blade gets his animated debut before Mahershala Ali slaps on the leather for live action.

The Season 1 Cliffhanger

Of course, because Marvel can’t resist a good cliffhanger, the final episode left us with Scarlet Witch trapping Ms. Marvel inside a fake happy reality—a Matrix-style move to keep her oblivious to the brains-eating nightmare outside. Only Riri/Ironheart managed to punch through that illusion, but with no Season 2 confirmation at the time, it felt like a bleak Black Mirror ending more than a traditional Marvel tag.

Now, with Season 2 locked in, they’re free to pick up those loose threads—and maybe even bring in some big names who skipped the first go-round.

Who’s Next to Become Zombie Chow?

With the renewal, Marvel can dive even deeper into its bench of unused comic book weirdos. Some likely (and some wild) bets for Season 2 guest stars:

  • Werewolf by Night
  • Man-Thing
  • Daredevil
  • Punisher
  • Hercules
  • Several of the Eternals (who, let’s be honest, could use the work)

The door’s basically open for any MCU character not already bitten, bludgeoned, or vanished in Phase 1. This isn’t just for cameo hunters either; there’s actual story potential in how these oddballs handle the apocalypse.

Marvel Is Getting the Hang of Animated Multiseason Runs

Oddly enough, Marvel Zombies is one of just a handful of Marvel animated shows to actually get multiple seasons. Here’s a quick status check:

- What If...? ran three seasons from 2021 to 2024.
- X-Men '97 gets Season 2 in summer 2026, with a third already happening.
- Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man launched with Marvel Zombies in 2025, and will return later in 2026.
- Eyes of Wakanda didn’t get an official renewal yet.

Not a crowded club, considering how much Marvel likes dumping projects after one run.

The Release Date Game: When to Expect More Zombies

If Winderbaum’s timeline and Marvel’s usual holiday spook-show rhythm hold, Season 2 is gunning for another late September/October roll-out—prime Halloween fodder, just like the first run. That would land it somewhere in autumn 2027. And with Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 already lined up for March that year and Avengers: Secret Wars coming in December, don’t expect Marvel to crowd the schedule. A fall release slot makes sense.

In Summary...

After a weirdly long wait for news, Marvel Zombies is getting another season, production is cooking, and yes, it sounds like things are getting even wilder for these animated Avengers. If you thought a zombified Captain America was as weird as Marvel animation could get, you clearly haven’t seen what’s next. Whatever fresh MCU twist they’re teasing, it’s probably not what you think—and for once, that’s not just marketing speak.
