Marina Sirtis torpedoes the infamous Star Trek: Enterprise finale she guest-starred in with Jonathan Frakes, likening the sendoff to a cup of hot sick. Her blunt take piles onto years of fan frustration with one of Trek’s most maligned endings.

If you ask Trekkies to rank the franchise's biggest missteps, odds are high the Star Trek: Enterprise finale will come up fast—and not in a complimentary way. The show's own cast got sidetracked, fan complaints have never really stopped, and for some reason, two stars from a totally different series ended up stealing the spotlight. Not exactly a recipe for graceful farewells.

So, What Happened at the End of Enterprise?

The short version: the finale decided to hand its focus over to Counselor Troi (Marina Sirtis) and Commander Riker (Jonathan Frakes) from The Next Generation. Remember, these two had zero to do with Enterprise's main storyline. Instead of giving Archer and company a proper sendoff, most of the final episode plays out from TNG's perspective, as a sort of 'holodeck flashback' that left a lot of plot threads dangling and killed off a major character pretty much just for shock value. Unsurprisingly, longtime watchers were annoyed, and the actual Enterprise cast reportedly wasn't thrilled either.

Marina Sirtis Doesn’t Hold Back

Sirtis recently chatted about this infamous episode on The Show People Podcast. Her take? Blunt and, honestly, pretty funny.

'Like a cup of hot sick. Because, really, it was a TNG episode, 'cause we were real and they were holograms… But yeah, the Enterprise cast were not happy that we were there at all…'

That’s not exactly the review you want on your series sendoff, but it matches the fan mood. Sirtis also pointed out one weird bit of trivia: she was there on the first day of TNG, then—years later—she and Frakes ended up filming the very last shot of Enterprise before the studio lights literally went out.

Enterprise Finale: The Bumpy Breakdown

  • The episode leaned heavily on TNG cameos, not Enterprise's regular crew.
  • Several ongoing plot lines never got resolved.
  • The sudden death of a main character felt arbitrary and left fans cold.
  • Both viewers and the original cast were frustrated with the lack of proper closure.
  • Years later, Sirtis herself doesn’t sugarcoat how awkward it was to swoop in as the show ended.

To this day, the final episode remains one of those pop culture mysteries—why wrap up a series by pushing its actual stars to the sidelines and turning it into a bit of a TNG nostalgia trip? Nobody's really given a satisfying answer, but it sure makes for an odd (and slightly infamous) footnote in Star Trek TV history.
