Margo's Got Money Troubles is sticking around—Apple TV has renewed the Elle Fanning-led dramedy after its 8-part first season.

Let’s be honest – if you saw even ten minutes of Margo’s Got Money Troubles this year, you probably knew it was getting another round. Apple TV+ has officially renewed the show for a second season, and frankly, thank goodness, because leaving that mix of drama, comedy and outright weirdness hanging after series one would’ve just been cruel. If you need to catch up, picture Elle Fanning as a new mum who takes to OnlyFans – not in the way you might expect – with a crew of misfits, some truly awkward family debacles, and enough biting observation on modern life to keep you glued for hours. Grab a brew, because there is a lot going on.

The Bones of It: Who, What, Why?

The series is the brainchild of David E. Kelley – yes, that David E. Kelley, the one behind basically every American legal drama your parents ever shouted at the telly for. Based on Rufi Thorpe’s Kirkus Prize-nominated novel, Margo’s Got Money Troubles launched in April 2026 on Apple TV. It follows 20-year-old Margo Millet, played with just the right mix of warmth and edge by Elle Fanning, as she tries to hold together her life (and her infant son Bodhi) after an ill-conceived one-nighter with Michael Angarano’s Mark, her married college professor. Standard TV fare, right? Except Margo’s solution is to pivot into OnlyFans – but instead of baring all, she’s writing racy science-fiction starring her cosmic alter-ego, The Hungry Ghost.

Then there’s the family. Michelle Pfeiffer, turning in a performance miles away from her usual roles, plays Margo’s mum, Shyanne: an ex-Hooters waitress turned tetchy new wife to local vicar Kenneth (a bang-on Greg Kinnear). Nick Offerman goes full tragicomic as Jinx, Margo’s dad, a washed-up pro wrestler and recovering (sort of) addict, with Nicole Kidman in a cameo you wouldn’t believe unless you saw it – she’s a wrestler-turned-lawyer called ‘Lace’. It’s a set-up that sounds bonkers on paper, but just works, somehow.

So What Actually Happens, and What’s Next?

Season one wrapped a series of threads tightly enough to satisfy, but loose enough to make a second run pretty much essential. Margo gets dragged into a nasty custody fight when Mark, the professor, decides he wants “his” son – and naturally, he uses Margo’s online life against her in court. The judge rules mostly in Margo’s favour, though Mark still gets every other weekend with Bodhi. There was real tension as to who reported Margo to Child Protective Services – not her ex, but her stepdad Kenny, which is just awkward given the family politics. Shyanne is now caught between her daughter and her holier-than-thou husband; cue serious fireworks in season two.

Meanwhile: Margo teams up with KC (Rico Nasty) and Rose (Lindsey Normington) to grow her online fantasy business, somehow balancing creative storytelling, parenthood, and the weird ethics of subscription platforms. Her flatmate Susie (Thaddea Graham) – easily the most likeable person on the show – helps juggle Bodhi and the cosplay side hustle, while forging a gentle friendship with Jinx. Speaking of Jinx: having spiralled into old habits, he bows out of Margo’s flat to dry out and crashes at Shyanne’s second property. His relationship with Nicole Kidman’s 'Lace', the lawyer/wrestler, is definitely not done yet.

Main Cast – Who’s Coming Back?

  • Elle Fanning – Margo Millet
  • Michelle Pfeiffer – Shyanne
  • Nick Offerman – Jinx Millet
  • Thaddea Graham – Susie
  • Nicole Kidman – Linda ‘Lace’ Sawkins
  • Michael Angarano – Mark Gable
  • Greg Kinnear – Kenneth

Most of the main cast are nailed on for season two, though it remains to be seen whether we get more of Marcia Gay Harden’s ferocious mother-in-law, or cameos from Margo’s old uni mates. And yes, expect the obligatory wild card appearances – Chris Jericho, Rikishi, or whoever else Jinx drags in from the wrestling universe.

Behind the Scenes & What the Creators are Saying

David E. Kelley couldn’t resist this project from day one. Here’s a bit that sums up the vibe from behind the curtain:

'Margo's Got Money Troubles was an irresistible proposition to me from the beginning. I fell in love with Rufi's world and unpredictable characters, and it’s been rewarding to see audiences embrace this series. We can’t wait to continue this story with our partners at Apple and A24.'

And for her part, Elle Fanning seems genuinely chuffed to get another go as Margo. She probably speaks for the lot of us when she says:

'Embarking on the adventure of bringing Margo to the screen has been one of the greatest joys of my life. When I first read Rufi's stunning story, it felt wholly original and most importantly human, and then with David's writing, along with our epic cast of heart-wrenching performances, it truly felt like we had something special. Having the opportunity to bring more of Margo's troubles, creativity, fearless spirit and authenticity to audiences with a second season, makes me incredibly happy and excited. I can promise everyone they’re in for a wild, messy, and beautiful ride.'

When’s It Out?

There’s no official release date yet – we’re only about ten days past the renewal announcement. For reference, the first season landed on Apple TV about ten months after filming wrapped, so if they get back on set soonish, you’re looking at some point in 2027 to rejoin team Margo. As soon as an air date drops, we’ll keep you posted. For now: rewatch, speculate, or just enjoy the rare pleasure of a series that’s as odd as it is clever, without being smug about it. Not too many of those about, are there?
