Lioness Roars Back: Season 3 Premiere Date Revealed as Zoe Saldaña Returns to Paramount+
Zoe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman are back on the op — Lioness season 3 is officially dated, with the spy thriller returning later this year on Paramount+.
If you thought you were done hearing about undercover drama and dodgy CIA politics, bad news: Lioness is officially back for a third round, and the details are finally out. Zoe Saldaña isn’t hanging up her badge just yet, and neither is Nicole Kidman. Yes, you read that right – both stars are returning, along with a couple of absolute legends this time round.
When are we getting more Lioness?
Circle 2 August 2026 on your calendar – that’s when Lioness Season 3 lands on Paramount+. It’s a bit of a wait, but judging by the comeback the show managed in its second outing, they’re clearly taking their time for a reason.
Who’s in, who’s out?
Not only are Zoe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman slipping the earpieces back in, but serial scene-stealer Morgan Freeman is also on board, still playing U.S. Secretary of State Edwin Mullins. Michael Kelly returns too as the CIA’s Deputy Director – the man’s basically become the go-to for shifty officials at this point.
- Zoe Saldaña as Joe
- Nicole Kidman as Kaitlyn Meade
- Morgan Freeman as Secretary Mullins
- Michael Kelly as Byron Westfield
- Laysla De Oliveira as Cruz Manuelos
- Jill Wagner as Bobby
- Dave Annable as Neil
- LaMonica Garrett as Tucker
- James Jordan as Two Cups
Basically, it’s the same team with a few extras, still running around in spy games and looking stressed out.
What’s the plot this time?
So here’s where things get a bit cryptic. The official logline has Zoe’s Joe stuck between her family and her duty, while 'unseen forces' (their words, not mine) are circling. Apparently, there’s plenty of stuff happening where it shouldn’t, people’s names keep disappearing, and her usual paths are getting all twisted. With Kidman’s Kaitlyn and Kelly’s Westfield lurking in the wings, Joe will be facing shadowy villains and, quote, 'reckoning with a war that now reaches into every part of her life.'
Classic spy show stuff, then, but with the ominous dial turned up to ten.
Quick history: Hits, flops, and record-breakers
Lioness didn’t get off to the best start. Season 1 was a bit wobbly, but by the second season it roared back with a 90% Rotten Tomatoes score. In streaming land, it even became Paramount+'s top launch (until a couple of other shows muscled in and nicked its crown later on).
Who’s pulling the strings?
This is still a Taylor Sheridan joint. Yes, that Taylor Sheridan – the Yellowstone guy who apparently doesn’t need sleep, considering how many shows he’s writing. Sheridan is credited as the creator and one of, quite frankly, an absurd number of executive producers:
Taylor Sheridan, David C. Glasser, Zoe Saldaña, Nicole Kidman, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Michael Friedman, Jill Wagner, David Lemanowicz, Geyer Kosinski, and Keith Cox. Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios are handling production, as ever.
For those not keeping score, Sheridan’s also given us 1883, 1923, Marshals, and Dutton Ranch – all spinning out of Yellowstone – plus Wind River, and scripts for Sicario (2015) and Hell or High Water (2016). Hollywood’s not bored of him yet, apparently.
Where to catch up
If you need to remind yourself who’s double-crossed whom or spot who shot first, both existing seasons of Lioness are still on Paramount+, ready for a rewatch or a mad binge before August 2026 rolls round.
