Michael Waldron, who co-created the thing alongside Glen Powell, finally weighed in during a chat with The Wrap, trying to clear up where things stand after fans started pestering for answers. To be fair, the ending did tee up a load of different story threads, so the question isn’t exactly out of the blue.

Behind the scenes realities

Waldron doesn’t beat about the bush — he admits that Chad Powers was designed as a three-season arc right from the start. In other words, there’s always been a plan for a proper conclusion rather than just meandering on. The snag? Both creators are keeping themselves busy elsewhere. Powell, in particular, is juggling a fair few other projects. Meanwhile, Waldron himself is doing the rounds at Marvel, reportedly working on Nova.

This show, we will always make time for our audience and this cast. It’s been amazing to watch people fall in love with it. So, hopefully this season, people like, because we want to bring it home. Bring it across the goal line.

How did Season 2 land?

Critical reception for Season 2 has been much better than the mixed bag that was Season 1. On Rotten Tomatoes, it’s pulling in a 91 percent score from critics, while viewers have nudged it slightly higher at 93 percent. For comparison’s sake, the first run only scraped 60 percent with critics and the audience didn’t rush to defend it either. If you swing by the Popcornmeter, Season 2’s managed an 84 percent — again, a sharp improvement.
