Landman Season 3 Is Closer Than You Think After New Release Update
Don’t blink—Landman is lining up a comeback ahead of schedule, landing back on screens sooner than you think.
Taylor Sheridan fans, you already know the drill: this guy does not take breaks. Everyone talks about Yellowstone like it's the main event, but at this point, it's basically just the Sheridan Cinematic Universe starter pack. His list of shows is a mile long—Tulsa King (where Stallone plays a gangster you actually root for), new spin-offs like Marshals and 1944, a supposedly gritty neo-Western called The Madisons—but lately, it's Landman that's been making the most noise.
What Is Landman, and Why Is Everyone Watching?
So, Landman is Sheridan's oil drama, which sounds like it could be about as boring as watching grass grow in Texas. But no—somehow it's become one of Paramount+'s biggest hits. Set in, unsurprisingly, Texas, it stars Billy Bob Thornton as a hard-nosed, foul-mouthed operations manager (eventually he climbs to president) at a fictional oil company called M-Tex Oil. There's family trouble, cartel drama, power grabs, and the kind of boardroom fights that usually end with someone swearing creatively rather than throwing chairs. The formula is familiar Sheridan: big personalities, ridiculous stakes, and lots of scenes where grown men argue in trucks.
The Numbers Game (and Why This Show Isn't Going Anywhere)
If you ever wanted proof that audiences will watch anything Billy Bob Thornton does, the stats are wild: Landman's Season 2 finale hit 14.8 million views on Paramount+ within 48 hours. That's easily one of Sheridan's best performances outside the Yellowstone mothership. It doesn't hurt that the oil business, which most of us know absolutely nothing about, somehow becomes fascinating once you mix in crime, sex, and corporate drama.
New Season: Sooner Than You’d Think?
Here's where it gets interesting for obsessive fans: Stephen Kay, the guy who directed a handful of the first season’s episodes and ran the whole show behind the camera for Season 2, made it clear at The Hollywood Reporter’s Directors in Focus event that they're not sitting around wasting time.
In English: they're editing episodes while they're still filming, which means post-production should be a lot quicker this time around.
Production Status & Possible Release Windows
- Shooting for Season 3 kicks off this May (as in, right now)
- If they keep up with editing as they go, expect post-production to wrap up faster than usual
- Optimistically, this could mean a premiere by the end of the year—which lines up with Season 1 (November 2024) and Season 2 (November 2025)
- Even if things slip, it would be surprising if the new season doesn't drop before early 2027—Sheridan’s track record is pretty against leaving fans hanging for long
Cast & Crew: Who’s in the Mix?
Thornton isn't carrying this whole oil rig on his own. The cast includes Ali Larter, Michelle Randolph, Sam Elliott in all his cowboy glory, Kayla Wallace, and Demi Moore. Jon Hamm also showed up in Season 1, but there’s no word he’ll be back for the third run.
Is Landman Going Soft?
The one possible snag? Reviews. Season 2 didn’t hit quite as hard with critics as the first, but when you’ve got ratings trending up and record audience numbers, that might be the least of Sheridan’s worries. Quality dips are always a risk when production moves this fast, but if the show keeps pulling these numbers, don’t expect anyone at Paramount+ to slam on the brakes.
If You Need a Sheridan Fix While You Wait…
Landman's next season is still months away at best. In the meantime, there’s a brand new Yellowstone spin-off, Dutton Ranch, and its first two episodes are hitting Paramount+ on Friday, May 15. So no, the Sheridan assembly line is not slowing down anytime soon.
