Chief of War fans, brace yourselves: Jason Momoa says Season 2 is at a standstill, putting the 92% Rotten Tomatoes Apple TV+ hit on ice.

If you were keeping your fingers crossed for more Chief of War on Apple TV+, I hate to break it to you: Jason Momoa says things aren’t looking too hot for a second season. Sometimes, the hype (and a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes) just isn’t enough to move things along on streaming.

What’s Going On With Chief of War Season 2?

Let’s rewind for a second: Chief of War dropped its nine-episode run on Apple TV+ in August of last year and wrapped it up by September. For a show that seemed to find both an audience and a fair amount of critical love, you’d figure a quick Season 2 greenlight wasn’t out of the question.

Well… apparently it is. In a chat with Collider, Momoa—who also happens to co-create and star in Chief of War—basically admitted the show is stuck in neutral:

'We’re just waiting for it to do its run and hopefully get some more words. But basically, right now, it’s kind of at a bit of a standstill.'

So if you’ve been hoping for fresh updates, that’s honestly the current state: waiting around, and not much else. Momoa sounded hopeful that there’s a lot more story to explore, but as of now, nobody’s scribbled out a renewal contract. File this under ‘not cancelled, but definitely not moving forward either.’

What’s Keeping Momoa Busy?

In fairness, Jason Momoa seems to have zero shortage of things to do. Take On the Roam for example—his passion project now in Season 2 on HBO Max (or whatever they’re calling that service this week). That show has Momoa bouncing around, getting creative, and apparently thinking about taking a break from acting entirely. Yes, you read that right. In his own not-so-family-friendly style, Momoa said:

'I’d like to maybe stop f***ing acting a little bit and actually go to school and learn how to play music a little bit more so I could be better, but f**k it, I’m still a work in progress, you know what I mean?'

That right there is someone who’s probably burnt out on blockbuster productions and looking to scratch an entirely different itch.

What’s Next for Momoa?

If you think stepping away means disappearing, think again. This guy’s slate couldn’t be more packed if he tried. Here’s what he’s signed on for next:

  • Lobo in DC Studios’ Supergirl movie — shooting for a June 26, 2026 release (DC’s cinematic universe continues its wild ride)
  • Street Fighter movie — because apparently that’s a thing again and Momoa’s name is attached
  • Dune: Part Three — no surprises, this is high on everyone’s sci-fi watchlist

So, the punchline: Chief of War fans, you might be waiting a long time (if ever) for that green light on Season 2. But if you’re just here for Momoa being Momoa, you’ve got plenty to look forward to—hopefully with less standing still and a little more action.
