Jason Momoa Crowns Lobo His Dream Role as New Supergirl Clip Drops
Momoa lit up CinemaCon with bold remarks as Warner Bros. dropped an extended clip from the movie.
Well, things are about to go full cape and boots over at Warner Bros. because Supergirl is gliding into theaters before we know it, and the hype machine is warming up. The first extended look at the movie just hit CinemaCon, and while the rest of us peasants don’t get to see it yet, there’s some info worth sharing from the folks who were lucky enough to be in the room.
The CinemaCon Reveal: Who Was There and What They Showed
At Warner Bros.’ big presentation, DC Studios’ co-chair Peter Safran got on stage with the film’s main stars—Milly Alcock (our new Supergirl) and Jason Momoa (turning up as Lobo)—plus director Craig Gillespie. They pitched the extended scene to an arena full of industry types and press, which honestly sounds a bit more fun than the usual parade of branded sizzle reels.
What’s Actually In the Supergirl Clip?
According to people who saw it, the scene has Alcock’s Kara Zor-El/Supergirl stuck on a trip with some less-than-charming company. Things go off the rails when even sketchier villains crash the party, apparently looking to loot everything—bus, fuel, engine, whatever they can carry.
One nice direct quote from the footage:
'They want the bus. They want the fuel. They want the engine. My guess is they want to rob us all blind first.'
There’s a lot of high-stakes fighting, and at one point, Kara can’t get her spacesuit on in time and is literally yanked out into the vacuum. Pretty dire, until her powers kick in—because, as some clever character notes, 'She’s flying towards the sun.' The cheat code, as every Kryptonian knows.
Of course, none of this footage is online (CinemaCon is notorious for keeping these things exclusive), but hopefully we get to see at least a proper trailer soon.
Cast, Crew, and (of Course) Some DCU Banter
- Milly Alcock: Supergirl/Kara Zor-El. She called the shoot 'incredibly transformative… not only personally but professionally.' (Translation: she probably did a lot of wire work and yelled at a green tennis ball more than once.)
- Jason Momoa: Lobo. He’s absolutely living out every nerd’s daydream: 'This is a dream come true. This is the comic I collected.'
- Craig Gillespie: Directing. (He’s the guy behind I, Tonya and Cruella—so, expect some style and maybe a mean left hook for your emotions.)
- Peter Safran: DC Studios co-chair, wrangling the universe into something resembling a plan (good luck).
There was even a little wink at DC continuity, since, yeah—Momoa’s already been Aquaman, and now he’s playing Lobo. He joked about Lobo and Aquaman hanging out, saying:
'I think they’d take one look at each other and have a few hundred beers and be like, "I like this guy."'
No promises from WB on a crossover, but the crowd was into it.
The Bigger Picture: What’s Next?
So when do we get to check this out? Supergirl lands in theaters June 26, 2026. Meanwhile, the DC movie train isn’t stopping: Safran spilled that cameras are about to start rolling on Man of Tomorrow (which, if you speak comic nerd, means Superman’s next up).
If you’re hoping for chaos, action, and actors happily leaning into the comic book weirdness, this one’s off to a promising start.
