James Bond Buzz Peaks as Tom Francis Finally Addresses Audition Rumors
Tom Francis is finally talking about those James Bond rumors. After reports he auditioned for Denis Villeneuve’s 26th 007 film, he tackled the question in a new Variety interview — and left fans guessing.
So, Tom Francis – who you might know from 'Sunset Boulevard' if you happen to be keeping an eye on West End talent – has finally commented (sort of) on all those rumours swirling about him and the next James Bond film. Not that he said much, but yes, we now have a fresh entry in the great British Bond guessing game. And if you like a sidestep, you’re in for a treat.
Francis Treads Carefully on Bond Audition Chatter
During an appearance at Variety’s Power of Women event in London, Francis was put right on the spot – had he really auditioned for Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming Bond flick, the big 26th entry in the series? His response: pure classic evasiveness. In his own words:
'I think everyone in the UK grows up watching James Bond and wanting to play him. It’s such a great franchise.'
In other words: nice try, but you’re getting nothing specific out of me. The man could run circles round a politician. Then, apparently still game for deflection, he added that he’d 'have to audition to even start thinking about it'. Which, if you’re keeping count, is two questions and absolutely zero confirmation or denial. If he is the next Bond, he’s certainly got the art of secrecy down to a tee.
What We Actually Know About Bond 26
- Director: Denis Villeneuve (yes, the 'Dune' bloke), officially on board since June 2025
- Script: Steven Knight, who’s written everything from 'Peaky Blinders' to 'Eastern Promises', joined as screenwriter the month after Villeneuve came on
- Studio: Amazon MGM Studios clinched the rights to Bond in early 2025 after that big Amazon/MGM deal
- Production: Amy Pascal (Pascal Pictures) and David Heyman (Heyday Films) are overseeing the film
- Plot: Still totally under wraps, though Knight has teased in May that they’ll be 'reinventing' Bond – make of that what you will
- Release date: No word yet
Amazon’s Mike Hopkins, who oversees the now very stuffed Prime Video and MGM pot, weighed in earlier during the Bond announcement with lines about the 'legendary 007' and British heritage – all the usual franchise-flogging comments you’d expect when a mega-corporation takes the reins on a cultural icon.
No further solid details have been offered for now – not even so much as a vague premise or a release window. If you've been hoping for a whiff of who will actually be Bond next, join the club. Francis hasn’t said yes, hasn’t said no. In the grand tradition of Bond rumours, it’s all cloak-and-dagger for the foreseeable future.
