A surprise Losers Club appearance in It: Welcome to Derry’s finale forges a deeper link to the films, casting a chilling new light on a pivotal moment from It: Chapter Two.

It: Welcome to Derry’s co-showrunner Jason Fuchs has revealed that a certain Losers Club cameo in the eighth episode was never part of the original plan. The addition, which came about during reshoots, now lends a fresh and rather unsettling perspective to a memorable sequence in It: Chapter Two. Fuchs, who penned the episode, explained,

“That was a very, very last-minute decision. That scene came about in reshoots. Reshoots are a normal part of any big show or any film, but we were at the tail end of everything. And that was a scene that had been talked about a few times, just generally, like how do we have one more piece of architecture linking us to the films? We certainly had the Rich Tozier missing kids poster that popped up, but what was one other piece of the puzzle that could sort of build a bridge to the films and make it feel like this really takes you in many ways to the doorstep of It: Chapter One?”

The Unforeseen Return of Beverly Marsh

The cameo in question features Sophia Lillis reprising her role as Beverly Marsh. She is seen in a hospital room at Juniper Hill, devastated and weeping on the floor, gazing up at her mother, who has taken her own life. As the season finale draws to a close, the story leaps forward by 27 years, introducing viewers to an elderly Ingrid Kersh. Despite her dark past—having been responsible for the deaths of over twenty Black residents in Derry—she appears, at first glance, to be a gentle, unassuming old woman. This impression is quickly shattered when Ingrid, drawn by a disturbance, discovers Beverly beside her abusive father. Beverly, in tears, looks up at Ingrid, who eerily remarks, “No one ever really dies in Derry.”

Reframing a Chilling Encounter

Fans will recall that in It: Chapter Two, Pennywise confronts the adult Beverly in the guise of Mrs. Kersh, an encounter that forces her to relive the trauma inflicted by her father. The new scene in Welcome to Derry suggests that Mrs. Kersh was not simply a random mask for Pennywise, but someone with a direct and haunting connection to Beverly’s past.

Fuchs elaborated,

“It also changes the context of that scene in It: Chapter Two, because now you’re understanding, ‘Oh, wait, the reason that It takes that guise in Chapter Two is not just about tormenting Beverly as it relates to her traumatic relationship with her dad.’ It’s actually scratching a very deeply repressed piece of trauma in the back of her brain, which is Mrs. Kersh, the person she met the day she suffered the most traumatic event of her young life to that point, which was the suicide, obviously, of her mom.”

Bridging the Series and the Films

With all episodes of It: Welcome to Derry now available to stream, the series has managed to weave itself more tightly into the fabric of the films. The unexpected cameo not only strengthens the narrative bridge between the series and the cinematic adaptations, but also casts a new, more disturbing shadow over Beverly’s story. For those seeking more to watch, there’s plenty on the horizon in 2026’s line-up of new television dramas.
