Ridley Scott’s Treasure Island has pushed Alan Ritchson’s Helldivers into summer 2028
Sony has delayed Alan Ritchson’s Helldivers, shifting the PlayStation adaptation to a more blockbuster-friendly window amid a broader 2027–2028 slate reshuffle.
Sony's doing that thing again where they shuffle half their upcoming slate like chess pieces, and the big headline is that Helldivers — the Alan Ritchson-led adaptation of PlayStation's cult shooter — now lands slap bang in the middle of blockbuster season. Yes, they've booted it from a fairly sleepy November 2027 slot to 9 June 2028, clearly hoping it'll pull in a much bigger crowd.
Helldivers is now set to hit cinemas on 9 June 2028, squaring up against a Universal event release and the Amblin horror, The Mandela Catalogue.
Why the Delay?
The shuffle is all down to Ridley Scott and his new take on Treasure Island. Sony wants that for Veterans Day weekend in the US (that's 11 November 2027), so Helldivers had to budge. Instead of squeezing it out the door whenever, Sony's plonked it in the heart of summer, angling for a leg up in the box office brawl.

For those behind the camera, you've got Justin Lin calling the shots as director, with production from Hutch Parker, Asad Qizilbash for PlayStation Productions, and Lin's own lot at Perfect Storm Entertainment.
What's the film actually about?
You don't just get Alan Ritchson in silly armour for nothing. The plot follows a band of elite soldiers defending the not-at-all-cliché-sounding 'Super Earth' from a swarm of alien nasties. Standard stuff — but the source game does have its fair share of fans. That's mostly thanks to the original 2015 release getting some serious love from critics, and the sequel Helldivers 2, which shifted over 12 million copies for PS5 and PC in its first four months on shelves in 2024.
Back to the Calendar Moves
Sony didn't just bump Helldivers, mind. At this Cinema United Fall Summit, they threw out a whole bunch of upcoming dates:
- Treasure Island (directed by Ridley Scott, stars Hugh Jackman as Long John Silver, plus Hugh Grant and Owen Cooper): Veterans Day weekend, 11 November 2027
- 24 Jump Street (yes, Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill are back for more): 10 December 2027
- The Surgeon (Michelle Yeoh actioner, landed after TIFF): 2 April 2027
- Narcs (drama starring Mason Thames and Ella Bright): 20 August 2027
- Grandgear (Takashi Yamazaki's sci-fi, a J.J. Abrams/Bad Robot gig): shifting up to 14 January 2028 from its previous February spot
That's the overview. If you're marking your calendar, expect a busy 2027–2028 for Sony — no guarantee all those dates won't move again, but for now, that's where the chess pieces sit.
