Helen Mirren draws a line under the Tom Hardy drama — MobLand sorted

Given all the kerfuffle lately around MobLand and whether Tom Hardy was out, in, or somewhere in between, it looks like we've finally reached some solid ground. After a few months of wild speculation (the rumour mill has not let up), Paramount+ has officially renewed the show for a third season and Hardy is, in fact, back. That should quiet the more hysterical corners of the internet — at least for a week or so.

Helen Mirren Sets the Record Straight

Helen Mirren is a regular on MobLand alongside Hardy and Pierce Brosnan, and if anyone's qualified to comment on the recent behind-the-scenes panic, it's her. She confirmed during a chat with Entertainment Weekly that Tom Hardy isn't going anywhere. In her words,

She went on to explain how chaotic things can get on a set like this — not naming names, but making it pretty clear she has seen worse. According to Mirren, working in TV means you're constantly thrown in with new people and new situations, which does lead to the occasional hiccup behind the camera. She reckoned that kind of tension can actually remind everyone how good they've got it, particularly when folks genuinely enjoy doing the show and want it to continue. For those invested in the drama — Mirren also clarified that no one twisted her arm to defend Hardy. As she put it, she would work with him again “in a f***ing heartbeat,” and so would Brosnan. The support in the cast seems genuine, not cooked up by PR — and that's increasingly rare, frankly.

Here's how Mirren spelled it out herself: "I did not get roped into it. No one asked me. I was simply saying the truth of me and my situation and where we stand on this, and incidentally Pierce also did [the same]. We absolutely love working with this guy, we love doing the show, and we would love to continue, and that's all there really is to it. But we weren't roped into anything."

MobLand Season 2 — What to Expect

All this drama aside, MobLand is very much carrying on. The second season is set to arrive on Paramount+ from 18 September, with the story focusing on the Harrigan crime family trying to hold their increasingly shaky operation together. This season looks like it’ll be a proper family scrum — squabbling over who's got the upper hand, while their fixer Harry Da Souza is forced to juggle all the dangerous egos and fraying alliances. Expect violence, trust issues, power grabs, and that general MobLand chaos that’s somehow become comfort viewing.

The official line for the plot: the Harrigans try to present some semblance of unity as outside rivals circle, their fixer walks a tightrope to keep things from blowing up, and as if that wasn’t enough, every attempt to shore up the empire seems to come at a bloody cost. If you’re wondering, yes, this is one of those shows where absolutely everyone spends half their time looking over their shoulder.
