Gwyneth Paltrow Reveals Her Most Memorable On-Screen Kiss
Gwyneth Paltrow discusses her much-anticipated film with Timothée Chalamet and reflects on a past on-screen moment with Ethan Hawke that she holds in even higher regard.
Gwyneth Paltrow is set to make her return to cinemas in the upcoming sports comedy-drama Marty Supreme, starring alongside Timothée Chalamet. While anticipation for the film is building, it is a particular scene between Paltrow and Chalamet that has already captured the public’s attention. Yet, for Paltrow, another on-screen moment from her past stands out as even more significant.
Comparing On-Screen Romances
During a recent interview, Paltrow reunited with Ethan Hawke, her co-star from the 1998 adaptation of Great Expectations. The conversation quickly turned to a memorable scene they shared in Central Park. Hawke, with a hint of nostalgia, asked:
You know, I have one selfish question that I have to ask about this film. You kiss Timmy Chalamet in Central Park. [Paltrow: Yes.] Did you shoot in Central Park? [Paltrow: Yes.] Did you kiss him in the same place you kissed me? I think it’s the same da*n location.
Hawke was referring to their own romantic moment in the park nearly three decades ago. Paltrow, however, was quick to clarify, responding without hesitation:
No, honey. Never. Ne-ver! I never would have done that. I never would have desecrated our make-out spot like that.
The exchange prompted laughter from Hawke, who went on to mention that, when asked about the greatest kisses in film history, he always replies,
You know what? I say that goes to us
. Their chemistry clearly left a lasting impression, both on themselves and on audiences.
Public Reaction to Paltrow and Chalamet
As the release of Marty Supreme approaches, Paltrow has been making the rounds to promote the film. During an appearance on a morning television programme, she addressed the widespread interest in her scenes with Chalamet, particularly those captured by paparazzi in a park setting. The images quickly spread online, sparking considerable discussion.
Paltrow described the reaction as overwhelming, saying:
You should have seen my mommy-group chats when the paparazzi pictures came out of us kissing in the park. All the mums were pretty stoked. My British school mums too — yeah, it was like a global event, apparently.
The photographs of Paltrow, now 53, and Chalamet, 29, generated a flurry of excitement, making it clear that the public’s fascination with their on-screen partnership is quite real. Even Hawke’s curiosity about the filming location was piqued by the buzz surrounding the scene.
Praise for a New Co-Star
Reflecting on her experience working with Chalamet, Paltrow was full of admiration. She spoke candidly about her initial nerves, given the scale of the role and the challenge of sharing the screen with someone new. Her praise was unequivocal:
He was great… To be honest, I was a little nervous. Like, it’s a big role, and it’s a brave move to put a non-actor in a part like that, and I just thought he nailed it. I mean, everyone was so impressed.
Paltrow added that she was "excited to work with Timothée Chalamet because he’s obviously so talented." In Marty Supreme, she plays Kay Stone, a retired film star who becomes involved with Chalamet’s character, Marty Mauser, an aspiring table tennis champion. The story follows Marty’s journey as he strives for recognition in a world that doubts him.
Marty Supreme is scheduled for release in cinemas on 25 December 2026.
