Fathom Entertainment and Cineverse are reviving Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth in theaters, giving the 2006 Spanish-language dark fantasy—winner of three Oscars—another big-screen run and a chance to relive Ofelia’s haunting journey in 1944 Spain.

Yes, you read that right — 'Pan's Labyrinth', Guillermo del Toro's visually stunning, nightmarish fairy tale from 2006, is heading back to the big screen. If you missed it the first time (or just want another excuse to stare slack-jawed at the gorgeous horror), you'll soon have a few very shiny new ways to do it.

The folks at Fathom Entertainment are teaming up with Cineverse to give Pan's Labyrinth a proper victory lap for its 20th anniversary. The re-release is set for October 9, 2026, so go ahead and mark your calendar. And if you’re rolling your eyes at the idea of yet another classic returning to fill theaters during awards season — this isn’t your average reheat. For the first time ever, the movie will play in 4K, and you’ll even have options for 3D and HDR screenings (if you want to see fairytale monsters popping right out at you in full, state-of-the-art format).

Cineverse plans to push the news out at CinemaCon next week, so expect a wave of nostalgia (and probably a few cosplayers in faun horns) to descend on your social feeds any day now.

Why All the Fuss Over a Rerelease?

Here's a quick reminder if you've somehow avoided spoilers for two decades: 'Pan's Labyrinth' is set in post-Civil War Spain, where a young girl named Ofelia (played by Ivana Baquero) moves in with her stepdad, a cartoonishly evil army officer. While he's busy terrorizing rebels and her family, Ofelia slips away into a mossy maze, meets the faun Pan (the always-incredible Doug Jones), and gets wrapped up in a quest involving three terrifying tasks that might prove she's a lost princess (or, just as easily, get her killed).

The film blew critics away when it dropped in 2006, racking up six Oscar nominations and winning three — an almost unheard-of feat for dark Spanish-language fantasy horror at the time. It’s ended up cemented on every “Best of” film list for years, and its 95% Rotten Tomatoes rating hasn’t budged.

Worth Seeing in a Theater Again?

  • Guillermo del Toro wrote, directed, and produced the thing. (He’s still at the top of his game, by the way — just snagged two more Oscar nods for his Frankenstein film in 2025.)
  • Cast includes Ivana Baquero, Doug Jones, Sergi López (who is absolutely terrifying as the stepdad), Maribel Verdú, Ariadna Gil, Álex Angulo, and more.
  • This time you'll be able to catch it in 4K, 3D, and HDR — so expect even the grossest bugs and those faun prosthetics to look better than ever.

Both Cineverse and Fathom are clearly excited to showcase this one with all the new tech. If you’re into official statements, here’s the vibe:
'Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth is a modern-day cinematic masterpiece wonderfully suited for audiences to rediscover on the big screen. Even better, thanks to our partners at Cineverse and in celebration of its 20th anniversary, we are presenting Pan’s Labyrinth with premium large format (PLF) viewing options – including 3D – for the ultimate, must-see cinematic experience.'
— Ray Nutt, Fathom Entertainment

At this point, even if you think you've seen enough 20th anniversary re-releases, Pan's Labyrinth is one worth actually leaving the couch for. And yes, the 3D checkbox is a bit of a curveball, but if anything deserves some extra immersion, it's del Toro's creepiest fairy tale.
