Gen V Season 3 Isn’t Dead: The Boys Creator Teases Post-Cancellation Comeback
Gen V may skip Season 3, but creator Erik Kripke is already plotting a new spinoff to bring its Season 3 plans to life.
So, maybe don’t throw out your ‘God U’ letterman jacket just yet—there’s been a pretty surprising update in the whole Gen V cancellation saga. If you missed the drama: earlier this month, Prime Video suddenly pulled the plug on the The Boys spin-off after only two seasons. That’s the one where the new crop of super-teens at Godolkin University basically find out that being a superhero is (surprise!) way more corrupt, bloody, and traumatizing than the glossy Vought PR materials suggest.
The Cancelled Spin-Off That Might Not Be *That* Cancelled
What makes this story a bit weird isn’t just the abrupt cancellation, but that Erik Kripke—the main creative brain behind both The Boys and Gen V—isn’t even the one who axed it. Actually, he’s about as bummed as anyone. In an interview, Kripke said:
'I did not cancel the show. One, I don't have the power to do that. Two, I was fighting to keep the show, almost more than anybody else on Earth. So I'm as bummed as everybody else out there.'
But don’t lose hope for your favorite traumatized supes just yet. Kripke has made it clear he’s actively trying to salvage a lot of the ideas (and cast!) from the unmade season three. He’s aiming to rework the plot threads into a brand-new spin-off, though the specifics are still up in the air. He hinted at big plans for Marie Moreau, the blood-manipulating main character played by Jaz Sinclair, saying the next arc would really push her to learn how to control her insane powers, not just unleash them.
Where the Gen V Cast Goes Next
In a twist of shared-universe fate, these characters aren’t disappearing—at least not immediately. The main crew from Gen V is set to pop up in the final season of The Boys (yes, only three episodes left, so expect them any minute now). Just don’t expect Marie and company to suddenly turn into the main characters. They’re not taking down Homelander (Anthony Starr), for example—even though Marie has been shown to be on his level power-wise. That gig will almost certainly go to one of the core The Boys crew: Butcher (Karl Urban), Hughie (Jack Quaid), or Starlight (Erin Moriarty). Making a spin-off character the person to finally end Homelander would just feel off, and the show knows it.
The Boys Universe Keeps Getting Bigger (and More Meta)
Here’s where things get a little “wait, aren’t we just making fun of this?”: The Boys has always roasted Marvel and DC for their endless shared universes and parade of spinoffs... but now, Kripke and crew are doing exactly that, and they’re calling it the Vought Cinematic Universe (VCU). It kind of turns the satire inward, intentionally or not.
Upcoming in the VCU:
- Vought Rising: a prequel series about the early wild west days of the Vought corporation. Expect to see younger versions (and probably some war crimes) from Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) and Stormfront (Aya Cash).
- The Boys: Mexico: basically The Boys but with Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal steering the ship. They’ll potentially star and produce. No real updates on this since 2024, but it's still being floated.
So, whether you were emotionally invested in Gen V or just here for the gory superhero satire, it looks like the Godolkin crew—and the whole Vought empire—aren’t going anywhere soon. Stay tuned for more, whether you want a spin-off, a prequel, or just the main crew finally getting around to ending Homelander for good.
