From Returns This Weekend — And Season 5 Is Officially Greenlit
From Season 4 hits MGM+ this weekend—prime time to dive in and binge a series many hail as the best show on TV.
Alright folks, if you haven’t jumped on the From bandwagon, you’re about to get another very good excuse. One of the creepiest and most addictive sci-fi shows on streaming quietly returns this Sunday, April 19, dropping its fourth season after a short little break. This is one of those under-the-radar series that has somehow kept its bizarre momentum going—and trust me, now is the right time to get sucked in.
Why From Works When So Many Sci-Fi Thrillers Fizzle
Look, there are a ton of shows trying (and mostly failing) to blend sci-fi, horror, and slow-burn mystery. From is one of the few that actually nails it—and has the fan love and nearly-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score (97%!) to prove it.
The whole thing kicks off with the Matthews family on what’s supposed to be a routine cross-country RV trip. Of course, anyone who’s ever watched TV knows that nothing good ever comes from a family road trip. Sure enough, they get stuck cycling through a small, nameless town, only to crash and realize they can’t escape.
That’s when things go from weird to full-on nightmare. The town is packed with other unlucky folks trapped the same way, and—just for fun—vicious nocturnal creatures come out when the sun goes down. The show is honestly relentless about piling on mysteries and never doles out easy answers. If you’re impatient and want your stories tied up after two episodes, this’ll drive you nuts. But if you’re into the vibe of 'lost in purgatory with monsters and secrets,' you’re probably going to binge your way through all 30 of the already-released episodes before the new season even really gets going.
The Cast That Makes This Town Worth Visiting
- Harold Perrineau (who basically is the show’s anchor, as Sheriff Boyd)
- Catalina Sandino Moreno
- Eion Bailey
- David Alpay
- Elizabeth Saunders
There are more, but that’s your core group. The cast is stacked, and they genuinely seem to be having a (horrifying) good time.
The Real Surprise: MGM+ is Playing the Long Game (On Purpose)
Here’s another reason From stands out: MGM+ drops its episodes weekly, not in a giant binge dump. So you get a week to stew on each new mystery or monster before the next episode lands—feels very old-school, but it totally works with the show’s vibe.
And if you’re worried about the series getting the rug pulled out from under it (Netflix graveyard, anyone?), you can relax. The network just renewed From for a fifth—and final—season. In other words, you’re guaranteed a full story, not some rushed cancelation or 'we’ll tie this up in a movie someday' fiasco. This was the plan the whole time, apparently.
As creators John Griffin and Jack Bender put it:
'We are wildly excited to announce that we’ve officially begun work on Season 5, which means we will get the chance to see our story to its conclusion. Which means questions will be answered. Answers will be questioned. And there will surely be a cascade of tears and terrors in-between.'
Should You Watch It?
If you want your sci-fi thriller with actual stakes, strong performances, a truckload of unsolved mysteries, and episodes you can’t just knock out in one weekend, From is waiting. With Season 4 hitting this Sunday and the ending already in the pipeline, now’s a perfect time to catch up and see what all the fuss (and nightmare creatures) are about.
