Fast & Furious TV Shows Unveiled: How Many Spin-Offs Are Actually Coming?
Vin Diesel hit the gas at NBCUniversal’s upfront, unveiling fresh intel on the Fast & Furious TV slate and finally nailing down how many spin-offs are racing to the small screen.
Well, buckle up, because the folks behind the 'Fast & Furious' juggernaut aren’t just content with 11 (soon-to-be 12) movies, video games, and theme park rides—they’re now officially cooking up a batch of TV spinoffs. If you’ve ever wondered what it would look like if the world’s most dramatic street racers took over your streaming queue, your oddly specific wish is in the works.
Wait, How Many 'Fast & Furious' Shows Are They Making?
So here’s where it gets a little wild: according to what Vin Diesel just told everybody during NBCUniversal’s recent upfronts (those are big advertising events where networks love to make splashy announcements), there are four (yeah, four) different 'Fast & Furious' series in development for Peacock.
Who’s in the Driver’s Seat?
Here’s the breakdown on who’s putting these shows together:
- First show: Mike Daniels and Wolfe Coleman are on it. No word yet on what corner of the 'Fast' universe they’re focusing on, though.
- The other three: These projects are getting split up among three separate pairs—Nick Wootton and Charmaine DeGraté, and then Ingrid Escajeda and Joe Henderson (so presumably, two pairs, three shows—don’t ask me how that math works, we’re just along for the ride).
What Are the Plots?
This is where things are still hidden under the hood. NBCUniversal hasn’t announced anything about what any of these four shows will actually be about—no titles, no plots, not even a hint about whether they’ll bring back Dom, Letty, or anyone else from the movies. All they’ve said is that the shows ‘exist inside the franchise in some capacity.’ So, could be Toretto family tree stuff, could be street racing in space, I honestly wouldn’t put anything past them at this point.
Are These Definitely Happening?
If you’re thinking 'Are these just ideas, or will we actually see them?', fair question. Right now, only the first show is for sure in development. The other three are basically in that trial phase where the network waits to see the scripts before pulling the trigger for full seasons. So, it’s possible not all four will actually make it to air, but they’re definitely being actively developed.
Why Is This Happening?
Vin Diesel himself spelled it out—apparently, fans have been clamoring for more stories about beloved legacy characters, and after a decade of considering it, Universal finally decided the golden goose might as well lay some eggs for TV too. At the event, Diesel told the crowd:
'As you all know, we are very precious about these movies but over the last decade, we’ve realized that the fans have wanted more, they wanted us to expand the legacy characters, their stories. And for the last decade, the desire has been for us to enter the TV space.'
If you’re keeping track at home, the 'Fast & Furious' movie universe already stretches across 11 (!) films, with 'Fast Forever' currently penciled in for March 17, 2028. So if you thought the ride was winding down any time soon… well, think again.
