Fans Can Stop Dreaming: Antony Starr Won’t Play That Iconic Video Game Hero
One icy blonde killer is a thrill; two is overkill. Insiders say doubling down on a lookalike villain could push the storyline from edge-of-your-seat to eye-roll.
So, Antony Starr is about to put back on Homelander's tighty-whities for The Boys’ fifth (and final) season, but fans have started eyeing him for another top-tier villain gig: Albert Wesker from the Resident Evil world. If you know Starr—blonde, intimidating, looks like he could throw you through a wall with a smirk—you can see why people make that leap. But apparently, Starr himself isn't too convinced.
Wait, Antony Starr as Wesker?
Here’s the internet logic: Both Wesker and Homelander are blonde nightmares. Both have that 'would sell out humanity for a protein shake' energy. And let’s face it, anyone who can make Homelander that entertaining can probably pull off Umbrella Corporation’s blondest psychopath.
But Starr isn’t exactly signing up for the next T-virus outbreak. When he got asked about Wesker in a recent ComicBook interview, his answer tilted towards confusion (and self-deprecating honesty), saying:
'I don't even know what it is, man. I'm an actor from New Zealand and if people ask you about a job, you go, "Yeah!" because there are not many jobs in New Zealand... So I'm trained into thinking, "Someone said 'you wanna [do it]...?' Yeah, I want that! What is it?"'
He also pointed out that pretty much the only thing Homelander and Wesker have in common is the hair (which, plot twist, he doesn't even have anymore). And then there’s the age thing: 'I think you'll probably need someone younger. I'm 50.' Not that anyone in the land of slow-moving zombies cares about logic or canonical accuracy, but it's a fair point.
Does He Even Fit the Role (Age-Wise)?
Fun fact: Wesker, by the time of Resident Evil 5 (which came out in 2009), is about 49 or 50—in other words, the same ballpark as Starr now. Of course, Resident Evil canon is as flexible as a liquefied zombie, so if Hollywood wants Starr in sunglasses, trust me, they’ll make it happen.
Wesker's Bizarre Career in the Movies
If you’re new to the Resident Evil deep-dive, Wesker is a former Umbrella Corporation scientist who decided the world needed way more undead. He’s a master manipulator, rocks sunglasses indoors, and is generally allergic to empathy.
- 2007, Resident Evil: Extinction: Jason O'Mara was Wesker, but more boardroom than biohazard—a corporate desk jockey heading up Umbrella, no real scheming.
- 2010, Resident Evil: Afterlife: The controls get handed to Shawn Roberts, but it’s still not quite the ruthless Wesker fans know from the games.
- 2022, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City: Tom Hopper puts on the metaphorical sunglasses, but his version is closer to the source material... except minus the signature blonde and gleeful cruelty.
- Netflix's Resident Evil (RIP): Lance Reddick took a crack at it, playing a Wesker who had cloned himself into basically his own lacrosse team.
So, yes, Wesker’s cinematic legacy is a little... scrambled. Nobody’s really nailed the games’ flavor—yet.
The Next Movie—and Is Wesker Even in It?
There is another Resident Evil film on the horizon, this time from Zach Cregger (of Barbarian renown, if horror movies are your thing). Cregger’s on record as loving the games, which is comforting. But the rumor mill says his movie is focused on a couple of new characters—Bryan (played by Austin Abrams) and Carl (played by Paul Walter Hauser)—instead of the classic cast. So, if you’re hoping for Wesker ordering around zombies while twirling a strand of his own hair, maybe don’t hold your breath.
Coming Up:
If you want your Antony Starr fix, best stick with The Boys for now—season 5 drops on Prime Video this April 8. As for Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil reboot, that’s penciled in for September 18, 2026. Until then, we’re all guessing who’ll put on the sunglasses next.
