Frank Grillo has already wrapped Man of Tomorrow, finishing his stint as Rick Flag Sr. in James Gunn’s DCU sequel even as production keeps rolling.

Let’s get into it: Frank Grillo has officially wrapped up his work on 'Superman: Man of Tomorrow', and he’s clearly got feelings about it. In case you’re not up on the current state of the DC Universe (frankly, who is?), 'Man of Tomorrow' is the sequel to James Gunn’s upcoming Superman reboot, with filming still chugging along as we speak.

Frank Grillo Waves Goodbye to Rick Flag Sr.

Grillo, who’s been playing Rick Flag Sr. in DC’s new era, has finished all his scenes for 'Man of Tomorrow'. He announced the news basically the modern way: multiple Instagram Stories, tagging all the relevant parties—James Gunn, producer Lars Winther, and the official DC accounts. If you’re reading a bit of heart in his farewell, you’d be right. Here’s what he wrote:

'Nothing but love. Wrapped!!'

And in another:

'Always sad and happy when a special one ends for me. But I leave with love and gratitude deep in my soul.'

Don’t mistake it for PR fluff—he’s genuinely got a soft spot for this project. In a bit of video (posted for the world to see), he called the production 'extraordinarily fun' and reckons the DC Universe is 'like nothing else'. On the film itself, in his own words: 'I think the movie's going to be f---ing dynamite, and everybody is great. So more to come.' He’s never been one for subtlety, bless him.

Grillo Hands Out Compliments Like Confetti

In classic Grillo style, he didn’t just wrap and run—he started heaping praise on his co-stars:

  • David Corenswet: 'David [Corenswet] is Superman. He is Superman. And he’s that wholesome.' Apparently, the casting director smashed it out of the park on that front.
  • Nicholas Hoult: Grillo reckons Hoult as Lex Luthor delivers so well, the James Bond producers are daft if they don’t give him a shot. Direct quote: 'If Nicholas Hoult isn't cast as James Bond, they made a great error.'

As for what’s next? Grillo finished with the tease (and maybe a warning): 'Superman: Man of Tomorrow is coming.'

So, Where Are We in the Production?

Just to keep everyone on the same page: Filming started back in April, with the main base at Trilith Studios in Georgia. They’ve also done some shooting here in the UK and in Ohio—bit of a globe-trotter, this one.

The returning lineup: David Corenswet is back donning the cape, Nicholas Hoult channels his inner supervillain as Lex Luthor, Rachel Brosnahan returns as Lois Lane, and Milly Alcock is stepping in as Supergirl. Gunn’s handling both script and direction once again.

Worth noting for the continuity hounds: 'Man of Tomorrow' is Grillo’s fourth run in Gunn’s DCU, after 'Creature Commandos', 'Peacemaker', and 'Superman'.

The film’s pencilled in for a July 2027 cinema release.
