Sydney Sweeney and Zendaya’s R-rated HBO smash finally seized the No. 1 spot for the week of May 5-10.

If you’ve been tracking the streaming charts and wondering when Euphoria Season 3 was finally going to vault to the very top—well, it just happened. It took nearly five weeks, but thanks to a seriously wild fifth episode, Sam Levinson’s drama (starring Sydney Sweeney, for anyone living under a rock) steamrolled past its competition to land as the most-watched show on streaming for the week of May 5-10. When Samba TV’s numbers came out (they're the data folks with software built into a ton of Smart TVs), Euphoria finally said, 'move over,' to everyone else.

The Top 10 This Week: Drama, Fire, Creatures, and... Murderers

So who did Euphoria beat out? Here’s the lay of the land in streaming’s Top 10 for the week, based on Samba TV tracking. Honestly, there are a couple of curveballs in here:

  • 1. Euphoria Season 3 (HBO)
  • 2. Man on Fire Season 1 (Netflix) – up from last week, still not hot enough
  • 3. The Boys Season 5 (Prime Video) – superheroes behaving badly, as usual
  • 4. Remarkably Bright Creatures (Netflix) – apparently, people like strange animals solving mysteries?
  • 5. Swapped (Netflix) – animated fare sneaking into the top tier after its May 1 launch
  • 6. Worst Ex Ever Season 2
  • 7. Your Friends & Neighbors Season 2
  • 8. Should I Marry a Murderer?
  • 9. Rooster Season 1
  • 10. Lord of the Flies Season 1

Controversy? Euphoria’s Doing Just Fine

Let’s be honest: Euphoria isn’t exactly a show that shies away from controversy. It basically sets up shop there. But Episode 5 (‘This Little Piggy,’ if you’re keeping track) really dialed things up. The internet exploded after it aired, mostly because of two things:

First, there’s a sequence where Sydney Sweeney’s character, Cassie, balloons into a literal Godzilla-sized figure in some sort of bizarro fantasy moment. Then she heads onto a right-wing podcast and, using language best left forgotten, makes it very clear she’s not a Democrat. Yes, that’s what was trending everywhere after the episode went live, with both praise and plenty of 'what the hell was that' reactions.

As for Zendaya’s Rue? She has found herself in increasingly dangerous waters this season, but being buried up to her neck by the intimidating Alamo (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) and his crew is next-level dark. If that wasn’t enough, the episode closes with Alamo literally charging her on horseback, polo mallet in hand, looking ready to end things right then and there.

Will they kill off the main character with three episodes left? Don’t bet on it, but it sure got fans sweating.

'With just three episodes left to go, it seems that Euphoria creator Sam Levinson is pulling no punches to make sure the series goes out with a bang.'

Three Episodes Left—Can Euphoria Keep the Crown?

So, after finally making it to number one, the only question is: can Euphoria cling to that streaming throne? With only three episodes remaining in what’s very likely the show’s final run (nobody’s made it official yet, but the writing’s on the wall), the next few weeks could get even messier, and that’s saying something for this show.

If you want more fireworks, the next episode, 'Stand Still and See,' drops Sunday, May 17. Don’t expect things to cool down.
