With HBO reviving Harry Potter for TV, Draco Malfoy star Tom Felton looks back on his Hogwarts years, weighs in on the reboot, and bluntly names his favorite film in the franchise.

Tom Felton—yep, the guy who spent a decade insulting 'Potter' fans as Draco Malfoy—apparently doesn’t love rewatching his own magical glory days. With everyone buzzing about that new HBO 'Harry Potter' series (because rebooting is easier than inventing), Felton recently spilled some thoughts on the franchise and, for once, actually picked a favorite movie from the pile.

Draco’s Pick: Not What You’d Expect

On the 'Happy Sad Confused' podcast, Felton got hit with the obvious question: which 'Harry Potter' film tops his list? His answer? He actually hasn't spent much time revisiting them. Felton said straight up:

'I've never seen them more than once.'

Rewatching young, bleach-blond Draco Malfoy apparently isn't on Tom's hobby list. He finds watching himself as a kid a little cringey, plus he’s more into the original books anyway.

Why Chamber of Secrets Gets His Vote

But if he has to pick a favorite, Felton 'bluntly' goes with the second film—'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.' If you remember, that’s the one with the giant snake, the petrified students, and Kenneth Branagh chewing scenery.

According to Felton, this was when the cast was finally starting to get comfortable with their roles—and when Alan Rickman (Snape) was, as Felton puts it, 'in full form.' Plus, that whole Basilisk thing made it way more fun to shoot than the first movie where everyone was just trying not to trip over their robes.

Honorable Mention: The Darker Side of Draco

Felton also gave a nod to 'Half-Blood Prince' (movie #6), which turned out to be a turning point for him as an actor. He points to that film as probably the most rewarding for his own craft. He said it was a crash course in 'what proper acting sort of is or was,' since Draco goes through not just external conflict but some actual emotional turmoil for once.

Basically, Chamber of Secrets let Draco be more than just a one-note bully. And by the sixth movie, Malfoy was basically falling apart under the pressure of being on Voldemort’s shortlist, which gave Felton space to actually show some range.

  • Favorite to watch: 'Chamber of Secrets' (giant snakes, more confident cast, peak Alan Rickman)
  • Most meaningful to act in: 'Half-Blood Prince' (emotional Draco, real acting challenges)

Still Rocking That Slytherin Pride

Felton’s Draco days aren’t entirely behind him, either. He’s all set to put the Slytherin cape back on—he’ll be reprising Draco Malfoy for Broadway’s 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.' Wouldn’t be shocking if he keeps dodging those 'movie rewatch' questions, though.
