Mike Myers has dropped a positive Austin Powers 4 update — and Dr. Evil fans will like the sound of it.

Was Dr. Evil always your favourite, even over Austin himself? Apparently you’re not alone – and Mike Myers has just confirmed that the next Austin Powers film is heading straight for the folks who love the bald bloke with a lair full of laser sharks. If you've been waiting nearly a quarter of a century for more from the satirical spy universe, there’s finally actual news about the elusive fourth film.

Mike Myers confirmed in a new interview there will be "more Dr. Evil" on the way.

Dr. Evil Takes Centre Stage

Speaking on Hollywood Insiders with Hawk Koch, Myers broke the silence about where things stand. At 63, he's still got both the teeth and outrageous accents to pull off the gig, and this time the next script is apparently giving Dr. Evil the lion’s share of attention. So no, it won’t just be Austin making ill-advised sexual puns in velvet suits – the spotlight's moving to the villain for once.

According to Myers, the current story is 'more from Dr. Evil’s point of view so far'. Fair enough, as he reckons playing Dr. Evil is 'a very fun character to do'. If you've seen any telly recently, you might've caught Dr. Evil popping up for a string of adverts – Myers points out they've done a couple now, and by the sound of it, he's having a lovely time hamming it up in the bald cap.

Early Studio Panic

Here’s one for the trivia fans: when the very first Austin Powers film screened, the studio didn’t know what to make of Dr. Evil. Myers was told, in no uncertain terms, to cut his own character back. He discovered the execs found Dr. Evil a bit too much, being too nasty to Austin. Their verdict was: 'Less Dr. Evil, people don’t like him because he’s mean to Austin.' Myers, quite rightly, noticed that audiences were still laughing – so he powered through anyway.

What’s more, Myers says it was only afterwards he realised the fanbase was evenly split: about half the fans preferred Dr. Evil to Austin Powers himself. Over time, 'bad guy-good guy' stopped being the point – people just wanted to see more of both. Myers had to 'navigate through' that odd bit of studio logic, and judging from three films' worth of fans quoting 'One million dollars' at each other, he was probably right to ignore them.

Fourth Outing Confirmed (Again)

Rumours of an Austin Powers 4 have come and gone every few years, but Myers has seemed increasingly willing to talk about it since at least 2024. On a FIFA World Cup livestream in June, he was asked outright if we’d ever see a fourth film. His answer was an immediate 'Yes.'

There's still no word on a proper release date, so don’t expect to buy your tickets tomorrow. At least Dr. Evil fans finally know the next round of 'zip it' and 'shh' gags aren’t just stuck in development hell.
