Doug Liman is loading his Bitcoin movie with real-world cameos—AI-polished turns from Mark Zuckerberg, Eric Trump, and more to make them look eerily spot-on. Crypto cinema meets the age of AI star power.

So, here’s one to keep an eye on if you’re into high-concept thrillers, tech drama, or just fancy seeing some of the world’s most recognisable faces run through an AI blender: Doug Liman’s cooking up a film called 'Killing Satoshi', and the sheer ambition (plus a whiff of controversy) might be more entertaining than the film itself.

First off, the cast: we’re talking Casey Affleck, Pete Davidson, Gal Gadot, and Isla Fisher in the main roles. Not exactly a shy bunch, and that’s before we even get into the gallery of political and tech ‘cameos’ showing up thanks to AI trickery. Yep, actual Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Jack Dorsey, Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong Un, and Eric Trump aren’t gracing the set – but actors will be digitally fiddled with until they’re almost uncannily close on screen. Apparently, Zuckerberg and Trump get the most screen time (dialogue-wise) among these AI-augmented guest roles.

What’s it even about?
The plot’s one of those mad conspiracy thrillers that’s begging for both serious takes and meme fodder: a bloke claims he’s the creator of Bitcoin, and suddenly he’s on the run, dodging both tech billionaires and world leaders, with the fate of the financial world (naturally) hanging in the balance. So, if you’re into shadowy backroom deals, crypto paranoia, and Elon-level eccentricity, you might be the target audience here.

Liman himself said:

"Killing Satoshi follows unlikely antiheroes taking on the most powerful people on the planet in an epic battle that strikes at the core of what is money and who controls it. I’m so excited to be collaborating with Casey Affleck again opposite the incredible Pete Davidson."

And the producer, Ryan Kavanaugh, chimed in too – making sure no one thinks this is just another crypto flick but a grander exploration of what Bitcoin represents. He more or less compared the ambition here to 'The Social Network', so, subtlety may not be high on the agenda.

The weird bit: all that AI and legal wrangling

Here’s where things get a little sci-fi meets legal drama. Beyond the digital face-swapping, the entire film is apparently shot on AI-generated backgrounds – so if you’ve ever wanted to see a thriller with the aesthetic of a weirdly expensive video game, this one’s for you.

Now, they’ve apparently run this whole concept past the lawyers – it’s all under satire, so the real Zuck, Putin, and the rest can’t sue the roof off straight away. But let’s be honest, using AI as a main ingredient in a star-studded film, especially to mimic recognisable public figures, is bound to wind people up. Liman and Kavanaugh have as much as admitted this is a big AI experiment, though, so you hope everyone involved read the fine print before signing on.

Main cast of actual humans (for those still keeping track):

  • Casey Affleck
  • Pete Davidson
  • Gal Gadot
  • Isla Fisher

Frankly, whether you’re fascinated or horrified by AI’s march through film and TV, 'Killing Satoshi' sounds like it’ll be the talking point when (if?) it lands. For now, chalk it up as one of those projects that could either be cutting edge or utterly daft – and possibly both.
